Hi,

I'm trying to build my first barebones pc and it all seems ok except I can't get the icyQ heatsink to clip on.

All diagrams have a heatsink with 2 levers on the top but the one that I have just has a metal clip at the bottom - however hard I try I can't bend it enough to clip and I'm worried that I might break something if I push it any further (or my fingers!)

Has anyone had any experience with this type and any tip how I can get it working.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Did your CPU come with an instuction booklet?   Maybe this is of help:

You will need a slot screwdriver.  A fair bit of force is needed to clip it on... if you can't get it, or are worried, take it to your local computer shop... they should clip it on in a few seconds.

I used a flat blade screwdriver and  tried to force it on, slipped and smacked into the motherboard... there was a very nervous time whilst I tried again, put the rest of the kit in and booted up but I must have missed anything vital as there've been no problems. In playing around with things I changed the chip later, and the one thing I would say is it's actually not too bad to do, but make sure you've taken everything out the way (including unscrewing the power supply and propping it on the side of the case), that the cooler is very evenly located on the chip, and that you're just firm and patient in pushing the clip on.

That document was very useful - thanks!

I sorted it very quickly once I found out that I could use a screwdriver to put pressure on the clip - needed to take out the power pack to get access though...

Thanks for you help
