As title suggests, I added a fan speed adjuster to the HS on my athlon2000.  The heatsink is just some daft loud 27dBA one from Maplins...Akasa AK824 it's called.  Is this wise?
Only just fitted it - obviously if it heats up real hot I'll remove it.  Just in case it goes hot when I'm not around etc etc.   Is this advisable?

Was wanting to leave it as a basic home file server...hence - long operating time +  inadequate fan = short lifespan.

As long as the cpu doesn't go much over 60ºC, yes, you'll be fine.
