I don't think my system will run it, as I simply did a fresh install of OS 10.3 when I got my Powerbook.

The reason I ask, is I got a copy of Starcraft for Mac the other day.  But when I try to install it, OS X isn't support right from the disc.  And I don't understand what I need to do in order to run the game.  After doing some searches online, I read something about installing the game on a PC and moving files... but it wasn't very clear and I ended up more confused than before.

Any help is appreciated!

your powerbook will support classic mode.. classic is emulation of OS9

what it may not do, is boot into OS9 rather than emulate it

this causes only a few problems, as most apps are OSX native now, but a few like certain norton utilities and Playstation emulators need to boot up in OS9 to work properly - Apple stopped allowing more modern machines to boot into OS9 by doing something to the firmware

have a look around for an OSX starcraft patch, even a third party one

http://www.versiontracker.com usually has decent mac shareware/freeware

SC does not have a OS X patch yet Blizzard annouced they are hard at work making one.
They just releases a OS X installer patch for Diablo and annouced that an OS X installer will be released shortly for SC as well.
I keep on their updates because I bought a SC game but can not play it because of it.  Supposedly you can install it unde OS 9 and use the patch to run it under OS X, but it can not be installed under OS X yet.

Like mentioned classic is an emulation of OS 9 under OS X, just like the "compatibility" option under XP for selecting 98SE.
Most apps are switching or are being rewritten to run better under OS X.  I also did not install classic on my ibook when I did my fresh install.  With the exception of a few games, I have not found a reason to have classic installed.

Merk, you don't need an OS X patch, you need the Carbon patch. I think I posted a link somewhere in the 'Got an Apple' thread that would fix your problem Merk.

merk read this thread. It was started by a programmer for Blizzard games.

Carbon patch does not work for SC.

Why not just install OS 9 Classic? Didn't you get the install CDs for Panther?
