Theres a huge difference between the Senate side and the House side and I think Cheney forgot where he was. What an idiot. Well like Bush always says "If you cant make a good argument, just talk louder." P.S. If you talk like Cheney here youll get a warning

I thought it was funny. I actualy wish politicians where more like this, just brutaly honest instead of fighting while complementing others and such. That said I can't stand cheney, but I really don't have a problem with this. Have more of a problem with his energy records being sealed for now. If only there was tape of this.
George Carlin for Senate! then we will see some fun.

Ugs, I gotta disagree. The thing about swear words is that people dont use them to describe things. The only use of swear words now a days is to attack someone else. That has no place anywhere. I allow some swearing on the forums if its not directed at someone but 99% of the time it is and has no place in making an argument. Im sure cheney saying f*** off wasnt much of an argument, it seemed more of an easy way out because he got owned by leahy's reply and couldnt think of anything intelligent to say.

LOL! I dont know whats worse, the VP swearing in public, or the implication of yet more dodgy dealings in Iraq I think if you cant take the heat, however strong, and still make reasoned debate, then you aren't fit to be a politician.

As Billy Connolly says, there is an easy way to avoid swearing and keep a clean concience.
You simply learn two new words and use them instead.
The first is Getifu (Getty [As in the surname] - fu [As in fur]) The sencond is Yabasa (Ya [As in Yam] - Bass [As in the fish] - a [as in the adjective a or car.])
Next you say either of them really quickly, or even combine them -"Getifu yabasa".
People might assume you are swearing, but you know that you are not and your concience can be clear.

It is interesting how when reality and Rocky's beliefs clash he always sides against reality. No amount of liberal babling will instill pride and self determination in people. In fact it is this exact type of liberal doublespeak that has kept us from being able to even have a rational discussion. Rather than counter a fact the reaction is to state "don't read that." Next thing you know we'll hear that there never was a cold war or that the cold war was caused by the west against good old Uncle Joe. BTW: The Washington Post printed the full word of Cheney's remark. No "..." or "- - -", they used the full word.

if you guys are complaining about this you should hear the oval office taps from the watergate thing, those are some funny things.
ive not heard the president of any nation cuss so much, it was interesting.
i heard the tapes off a video in history class, supposidly it was the first time the tapes were permited to be publicly heard, but all the same, it was funny.

Rwood- It was a joke between me and Scut, get over it. You really must be paranoid to think that liberals are trying to suppress information, last time I looked we were the ones for free speech and you guys were the ones for censoring things. Everyone else got the fact it was a joke hence the smiley face and the fact that scut and I were on the same side of the issue.
And the cold war? Where did that come from, do you actually think anyone cares to politicize the cold war?
I think you need to come back into reality and make a friend with someone with views other than yourself and youll see there are good people on other side. Just because someone disagrees with you doesnt mean you have to head straight down the insult route and call them unpatriotic. I think its unpatriotic to attach words like patriot to bills just to gain a good public view. Lets talk about the issues that plague our country not tricks and emotions that cause people to react quickly instead of thinking about it like you obviously did with that last post.
Ill ignore the fact that your sole point of the post was to try to belittle me because you obviously arent in a rational state or you wouldve been clearer and more pleasant in your writing because as you say, ur about rational discussion.

Ever see that one tape of the brawl between delegates over in Japan ?
I find it amazing that somehow a Republican (a professional) can curse-out a fellow worker and come-off better for it. Imagine what the Republicans would be saying if the situations were reversed. "That fork-tongued snake in the grass liberal couldn't handle the truth. He should be removed from his seat. How long would I hold my job if I stepped out of line and cursed-out a coworker. That was completely unprofessional and he is an embarrasment to this country. The President should be impeached for lying and impeached again for having supported this Democrat's immoral actions. They're all a bunch of crooked, lying SOBs....................................."Oh wait... they're already saying that...

I don't understand why people are making such a big deal of this. It's not like it was common place. Believe it or not, politicians are humans like everybody else. I don't know anybody that never slipped a bad word at the wrong moment...

I LOVE your signer... so you. I agree, though I'm making a "big" deal out of peoples' responses. I also know that Washington would be holding a special meeting to impose disciplinary actions OR pass some sort of law if the situation were reversed. RePubs would be bringing this up for a six months trying to link this guy to Kerry. Since they aren't reversed however, what they'll probably do is to quietly pass another ordinance that will keep cameras and media equipment out of (more) places in Washington. THE absolute longest that this will revolve-around in the media is for another few days... after that, no one will speak of it again. Besides... Police Overseers aren't human, why should Politicians be ?

Wrawrat- Im not educated on how it is in Canada, but the Senate floor has strict rules on how you can talk and how you address people. Cheney broke these rules and it wasnt common place. There has only been a few other incidents in recent history where anything like this has happened while on the Senate floor and as far as I know never by the president of the senate (which cheney was at the time).
I think it also shows a lot that Cheney couldnt think of anything important or civil to say other than what he said. Especially when you are in the one place where issues should be talked about.

Rocky, of course we have strict rules. I'm not saying that we should tolerate that kind of talk and/or behavior. However, he is only human so you can't expect him to be holier than a saint. Perhaps he was in a bad mood that day. It doesn't make him less competent or prove that he is an idiot. I'm pretty sure that this kind of thing happened to you at least once in your life and I don't think you classify yourself as being an idiot.

I dont think swearing is a big deal. But when you are VP of the United States and you are talking to a senator when youre standing on the senate floor you dont crack and tell someone to f-off as your first reply. And I think it does show a lot of competence to be able to control what you say, especially as a first comment. Now if someone slips later in an argument when emotions have risen and yelling has preceeded it, it may be different. But as a first reply to a senator? It shows premeditation and a lack of respect for the space they are in. And yes Id say the same regardless of who said it in there. The floors of Congress should be a place of great debate and an exchange of ideas as it has been in the past. If you cant follow Bambi's advice at least while you are in there then I dont think you have any business being there.
P.S. I spent the morning of the day after my 21st birthday in the capital while people yelled at me to do things, and cant tell me he felt worse than I did...blah

Newsbit: 'F-ing Cheney' is making an impromptu visit to Ohio... the RePub stronghold... probably to do like Bush did with Kerry and that's to perform damage-control. I asked someone "I wonder who he's going to curse-out in Ohio ?" and his response was "There likely won't be any Democrats there to curse-out."

What was it Bush was caught saying on the campaign trail during the 2000 election about that reporter from the NYT. He called him/her an a**hole or something when he thought they were off camera and some local station caught it with a parabolic mic. Pretty funny.

He comes off better because it's a human reaction and the Republicans aren't nearly as dictatorial about all the PC junk that goes on in this country. I'm sure this kind of stuff happens all the time behind closed doors, but this was a closed door meeting when Congress wasn't out, but they were on the Senate floor. There is a question as to whether rules apply or not, but you know it's not like it's consistent and common behavior. Rock, Haven't you ever been attacked about something and been so incensed that you just responded with a curse word before giving yourself some time to calm down and reply in a more dignified fasion? From LR's original article: Quote
According to Senate rules, profanity is not permitted in the chamber. But when the exchange occurred between Leahy and Cheney, the Senate was not in session, so there was technically no foul.
This was in the middle of a continued exchange between the two on Catholic Judge appointments and possible hearing and indictments on Haliburton profiteering. Those are the two most contentious issues in Washington (after Iraq - that's tops) right now.

Scut - "Rock,
Haven't you ever been attacked about something and been so incensed that you just responded with a curse word before giving yourself some time to calm down and reply in a more dignified fasion?"
I think hes a greedy selfish dispictable man whos screwed his employees out of lots of money, manufactured account information for haliburton while he was CEO, now I think hes giving them unfair contracts. I think he did the same with the energy plan. I think he continually lies about the ties between Al Queda and Iraq just to gain some political points, and his smile makes me want to punch him. But if Dick Cheney came up to me and greeted me I wouldnt tell him to F-Off Id probably greet him back and if it went further Id tell him what I thought of his plans for the country.
Scut have you ever told someone to F-Off after they came up to you and said hello? The prior exchange were through the media and not in person. These are the policy makers of our country whos first goal is to serve the country, and if you cant talk to another one without immediately swearing at them then you have problems.
yes I know the senate wasnt in session. Clinton didnt have a meeting in the oval office either but I still think its wrong for anyone to give anyone a blowjob in it. I also dont think its right to piss in the holy water at church either even if mass isnt going on. The sacrity of the building and some rules you should just follow even if you can break them at certain times.
