Maybe by late next year, 2 dual core processors with 2 graphics cards will power the ultimate gaming machines.

Seems like motherboard manufacturers could build less expensive uni-processor mobos with 2- PCI-Express x16 slots targeted at this technology.

From the thread posted by VorLonUK:

For the fourth quarter of this year, Gigabyte plans to offer mainboards supporting Nvidia's SLI technology supporting two PCI Express graphic cards. According to Chiang, the company will roll out boards with two x16 slots as well as version with one x16 slot which is split in two x16's running at x8 speed. There was no word on the cost of such a board, since Nvidia has not announced SLI pricing. Chiang however thinks that "won't be twice a single x16" version.

I imagine that most of the tier 1 mainboard manufacturers will also produce SLI capable mobos, which bodes well for Nvidia.

Well, dual high end graphics cards won't be cheap, but a pair of 6800 GTs might be reasonably priced in a couple of months.

These ultra high end system configurations are targeted at niche users, so price is not as much of an issue.

You are talking to me like I am not part of the "niche crowd". Trust me I am (now I have to start saving again).

No I'm not, as I'm well aware that anyone with money to spend can be part of the ultra high end "niche crowd".

I'm just stating that these type of configurations are targeted at users who want the best of the best, and are willing to pay for it,  so price is not as big of an issue as it is with mid range systems.
