At least that's what it seems to me. Here is a pic with 3Dc enabled: Here is a pic with 3Dc NOT enabled: *Some say it does improve performance by as much as 20 FPS though*

Oh, and I must tell you guys that the first image (the one with 3Dc enabled) was taken with a Radeon X800 Pro. While the second image (the one that DOESN'T have 3Dc enabled) was taken with a Radeon 9600. So in other words, just ignore the frame-rate counter in the upper left corner.

what's 3Dc?
I have only gotten one or two views from something I posted about 5900 ultra's earlier today.

This was taken directly from ATI's website: 3Dc is an exciting new compression technology designed to bring out fine details in games while minimizing memory usage. It is the first compression technique optimized to work with normal maps, which allow fine per-pixel control over how light reflects from a textured surface. With up to 4:1 compression possible, this means game designers can now include up to 4x the detail without changing the amount of graphics memory required and without impacting performance. So to be even more straight-forward: it is suppose to give you BETTER GRAPHICS and BETTER PERFORMANCE. But as I have showed you guys, it doesn't seem to give you better GRAPHICS at all. But at least it DOES give you a performance increase. Oh, and I should also tell you that 3Dc can ONLY BE DONE ON ATI's X800 line of video cards.

but no game is specifically made to support it, so it may look better in the future when stuff is made to do it. I'm totally cool with it being faster and looking just as good.

Actually: what I showed you was created to show off the 3Dc technique. So in other words, my example DOES support it.

Few problems in your conclusion. Your example pictures aren't exactly same, and what ATI means by better image quality in this case is, that you can use more high precision textures with this compression than without it.
So is your example code using all available texture memory in both cards ( 9800 and x800 ) ?

First off, these are not my pictures (I am just showing people THIS demo that other people have run). What has happened is one person ran it with an ATI X800 Pro. Another one ran it with a Radeon 9600 (like I stated before). The example pictures aren't took on the same place, but it is on the same texture that was re-used in another location (I could not find two pictures that were in exactly the same spot: but these seemed quite close).
Oh and just to let you know, I am NOT an Nvidia fanboy or anything like that. I am just posting what I thought on this matter using those pictures. Heck! Maybe if I actually ran the demo on my own and had an X800 Pro then maybe I would see a difference. But like I said before, I am just basing my opinion on something that could easily change later when games DO support it.

Sorry. Didn't read your posts carefully enough. At the moment can't say much if future games will support that 3dc feature. I gues it will be implemented in all future graphics cards if ATI wishes taht developers would use it. Otherwise it will remain X800 only feature and nobody wouldn't support it without nice sum of cash.

No problem man! We all make mistakes.
And regarding 3Dc support: lets hope it gets more than the admittedly low amount that the TRUFORM feature got (which correct me if I am wrong: was only supported by a hand full of games)
