i am looking for a good Clear acrylic shuttle case for SS56G, without any fan knockout windows on the side.  all solid clear acrylic all around.

i am going to modify it to look like an Apple G4 Aluminum Powerbook...  I'll paint all the plastic ports by hand with a thin semi-grey paint. Paint the entire case (and faceplate) with a base white coat, and then a textured aluminum paint.  i will paint all but a cut out of the Apple logo on the side, then peel off the logo sticker, so the logo at that point will be the only Clear part of the case.  Then add frosted plastic behind the clear logo, and light it with a couple bright LED's to mimmick the Apple LCD backlight seen on G3 and G4 powerbooks.
In the end, i think it will appear to be an updated G4 cube, on its side, powerbook style.

so are there any clear cases out there without fan knockouts?  for under $50?
this is my first mod but i think it is going to be alot of fun.

here

i had the same question, i suggest picking up some acrylic and doing it ur self, plus if u mess up, u can always make another!

use a dremel with a cut-off wheel to take off the excess of the screws9if ya dont have a dremel, i suggest u invest in one, it really makes any job MUCH easier!), use 90' brackets along the sides and back, drill holes for the thumbscrews in the back, and i think u could ad a nice little customization like that, just have a few brackets every 2 inches or so, what ever u want, or just one that runs all the way back, and if u want to just have a spot for the thumbscrews in the back so that u dont have to cut off as much use one screw for every small bracket.

make sure the brackets are flush, and if u want to use something else for the lip, try to use what jaxdolan was talking about, or pick up some superglue and be creative!

its ur rig/box/computer! (what ever u wanna call it.) and heck, it sure is gonna be under 50 bucks!

always use saftey glasses!

guess thats it,

HTH

good luck with the mod, for painting i suggest letting ur paint sit in warm water before painting, and im sure u know all the priming sanding and painting steps so i wont bore u with that!

yea... man this stinks, really didn't want to have to deal with building the case myself.  I might be doing this modification for a couple friends as well if it goes okay

does anyone know how easy it is to knock out the knock outs on the clearview?  if they are stable enough, i could incorporate them into the design and not knock them out.  like put a thick apple logo on them, but don't peel it off after paint, so its kind of embossed and raised beneath the paint (subtle details make for great mods)   now i am thinking of putting 2 glowing apple logos more toward the front, on both sides of the case instead of just 1 side... like in between the knockout holes and the front of the case.   i would mount a 4-LED Molex cluster on both sides of the HD cradle to illuminate the logos.

also, is the clearview logo etched into the outside or inside of the case?

i have found pictures of Shuttle's PF14.. http://www.shuttle.com/share/Simages/productimages/pf14.jpg
this would kind of work, i could put the apple logos above the vent holes in the acrylic.  but i'd rather not go that route.
plus i can't find a single place selling this.

as for painting.. i'll be using Rust-Oleum Gray Sandable Primer (about $3.00), Rust-Oleum Silver Textured spray paint (about $5.00), Rust-Oleum Matte Finish Clear Coat (about $3.00) .  on the case, the front panel, and the back as well (removing the mobo or at least masking the jacks)

thanks for the replies !!!

just came across this... and its perfect..
http://www.sunbeamtech.com/new/products/acrylic/acrylic%20series-Shuttle%20XPC%20Mod.htm

anyone know where i can buy one of these?  and how much are they?
i dont care what color... its getting painted.   i could just glue in an acrylic panel where the fan holes are, and put the glowing apple logos right there!   its perfect!
