Ive read a few threads about how the thin or slime style fans die after a short period (much shorter then normal case fans anyway). whats the deal with this? Do they really start to go bad and make noise after just a few months or is this blown out of proportion?

Ive never heard those rumors before, but they are probably false.  The slim fans I have used have the same life expectancy (over 50000 hours) as normal fans.  In fact, the only fan I had die in my experience was a 25mm thick panaflo
