Just been reading this story where I suppose some would say some Iranian women are falling into the depths of depravity wearing western type clothing. I found it refreshing though Could this just be the tip of the iceberg, where woman traditionally are treated as second class citizens, start to try and push the boundaries themselves?

Well, when bad things start happening they will know who to blame. If only these women would obey the morality laid down in their religious texts. (note sarcasm lifted from other thread).
I think the Iranians are loosing out here with the old school clothing. Have you seen Rudy Baktiar (sp) on CNN, if they got more of her walking around covered up these people are nuts. They could have a GDP of hot chicks.

You're right, Rudy sure is pretty. There are a lot of pretty Iranian women. I guess some Afghan women are giving up the strict taliban dress requirements now, though I hear there is still some backlash against it.

When I was in turkey a few years ago I saw some women all covered up, the tour guide pretty much made fun of them. She said that non of the religions require that. (this is extreme cover up). She refered to them as Fakers, since no religious text and such is forcing them to do that. And judging by how few women were covered up in turkey (an islamic country) I would have to belive what she was saying. She said they basicly did it to get attention. If so thats as sad as them being forced to dress that way.

Just for the record, Turkey is officially a secular country. Modern Turkish governments have been known to put their foot down on any religious/ethnic extremists.

pipperoni, thanks for the update. Never the less the bulk of the population of the country is islamic. The US is secular to, but you would never know it by watching our government officials, and acussing us of being a christian nation is understandable (though sad that its understandable).
Back to the important issue.
Rudy is hot.

it's too bad the powers that be are willing to kill and maim their women if they don't cover their entire body in clothing. i know of several women who should do that but don't, especially when they go to the beach

Hope? No. The story was about roundups and arrests, not about successful rebellions. Students in Iran have been staging protests for years with no effect whatsoever, other than getting put down harshly. I ain't holding out hope for that country until their theocratic dictatorship falls.
