She passed away in her sleep last night.  

When I first started out in culinary arts I heard a lot about this lady.  I've seen presentations by her, seen the foods she fixed, tasted the recipes she created, watched how she acted in the kitchen, how she treated her guests, and how much profesionalism, dedication and love she put into her work.  I first heard about this today on the radio on the way to work and I must say that I was just blown away and saddened by the news.  I didn't know her personally, but with all that I did in cullinary arts and how much I tried to follow her footsteps (she was quite the culinary trailblazer too) it really hurts to know she's gone.  I'll miss her and her awesome food a lot.

She was a great lady (and very tall.) I was lucky to meet her several times and the warmth and affection she showed on the television shows is her. There is no act. She will be missed.
