ultim8um - you've hit the two key issues I'm concerned about right on the head, i.e. the bulk of the PCI module and the heat it creats running a peltier. I'm hoping the heat issue will be covered by the cross-flow of air from my side panel fan-mods, but what effect the heat generated by the small psu in the PCI unit (at least it won't be hammering the ideq's psu) will have on my GC which has now become occluded by that same card... Still I'm going to do some proper measuring and so on this w/e. Will mock up a cardboard replica of the PCI unit and see what kind of space it takes up, I know it's a fair bit. I'm also going to look into ducting the HS on top of the peltier to get the airflow situation back to a 'standard' ideq iyswim. In other words see what the possibilities are for mounting the fan on the front side of the HS and push air through it rather than from on top of it. As you say the case needs to be designed for it, and I'm hoping that this is what I'll end up doing to the best of my abilities - not as good as designing the case from scratch for it obviously, but I'll work with what I have! cheers for all your input by the way people, good forum this! UPDATE! -------------------- Ok bad news , there's no way the PCI unit will fit in my 200T, it's just too damn big! It will not only completely occlude the GC (in fact from my mocked up version it will actually touch the fan on the Hercules 9800pro I have) but will probably not fit in the first place as the card unit is just too thick. Never mind, will probably try modding another heatpipe instead, will keep you all posted!

There are a couple of coolers by scythe that look like they would fit, only problem being that they would be side to side rather than front to back...

So far, the best bet seems to be the one from the 200P - see this thread - but I don't think anyone wants to take the plunge, after DrA's DP102 fiasco

Fiasco? Ouch! I prefer to think of it as a learning experience. An EXPENSIVE learning experience. And yes, being the glutton for punishment and slow learner that I am, I ordered the 210P-cooler look alike based on the info in the other post. Maybe THIS will be the last mod for the 200N... quote:

do you guys think this would fit on my ideq 200n. The dimensions seems pretty close to the stock cooler, i already flipped my psu upside down so i guess i increased the height allowance for a new cooler... http://www.frostytech.com/arti...iew.cfm?articleID=1554

Seems alright - only 89mm high, if I'm reading correctly. Only drawback would be the unfocused air flow - it spreads its exhaust out in all directions. But if you've got the side fan mods (I don't recall specifically...) I don't see that being a HUGE issue... Report back?

Bad orientation if I guess well. It would be 90° oriented

Is the motherboard on the pic an iDeq one ? Cause it seems to me the iDeq mtoherboard's socket is 90° oriented

As i said before, our motherboard (M7NBA) has a 90° oriented socket which doesn't allow mounting an heatsink with an straight line. Check it and you'll probably understand.

@rrussell
i have 2 zalman fans, one on each side. im still thinking if it would fit my ideq, i guess the cooler passes the height clearance, but im wondering if it would interfer with the capacitors or something inside..

jayr - I can't say for certain, but my initial reaction (after looking at its photo again) was "heavens, no!" It appears fairly self-contained within the CPU bracket, and shouldn't interfere with anything that the original heatsink wouldn't interfere with...

Found another replacement HS, I've recently picked up a Thermalright SLK900U + 90mm Enermax fan and works flawlessly with the P4 mount. Also, I've modded the PSU, cut down the PSU fan grill, flip down the fan and re-wire the PSU fan out so I can connect it to the mobo and control it with SpeedFan. Now the PSU fan just blows air out to the HS and the enermax exhausts it out through the side vent holes. Duron 1600@2000 1,5V, Enermax at max RPM, PSU fan at 50% and rear 70mm at 30%. No soud, 40ºC idle

Dr. A- sounds like a primo opportunity to holesaw a vent in the top of the case and turn that PSU upside-down

I installed the Vantec Mach1 in my system about a month ago and it dropped my temps about 10 degrees celcius from before. I idle now at about 38 deg, and only hit about 49 under load. used to go over 60 and cause reboots. I took it to a local machine shop in my town along with the original heatsink and they ground the groove into the bottom of it to be able to fit on the socket propery for $15 US. works great! http://www.cdrinfo.com/Section....aspx?ArticleId=14537i have tried to post pictures here before and i guess i dont know how to do it right. if someone could tell me how to do ti right I will post them. iDEQ 200N with athlon xp mobile 2600+ oc'd to 2.4 ghz

Do you have pics of the SLK900U in the ideq? Did you have to mod the base of it to fit?

I think I'm gonna try one of theseI know it doesn't blow out the back of the case like the stock HSF does, but it seems to be one of the best Socket A/478 coolers available. Also, after doing some research, it looks like it will have the socket A "slot" in the right place, so no modding required (A big plus for me). I will post my results.

Sorry to necro an older post, but I'm having fan problems in my iDEQ 200N. Thinking of doing the PS, case fan, and CPU fan/heatsink all at once. Do you have yours set to blow air up from the CPU through the PS? How well does that external case fan work on your machine? Glad to see some people don't wanna let their 200 series ideqs go. (cleaned up HTML too, looked bad in firefox)

Looks like the site redesign hated my links. They're fixed now.
My CPU fan blows down onto the motherboard. I've always thought this is preferable to help keep motherboard components cool. The case fan works well. If you have the modding skills necessary it is cleaner to get the fan inside the case, but for me, it was the easiest/most effective method. I put a very quiet 80mm fan in there, and run it at 65% or so using speedfan, and it keeps temps essentially exactly where they were with the old 70mm fan back there, but it does so much more quietly.
I started with the 200n at stock with a 9500 Pro video card (which was loud due to a lack of temperature controlled fan).
Where I stand now, after replacing the 9500 Pro with a x1600 Pro, a 90mm cpu cooler, 80mm exhaust fan, and 70mm fan inside the PSU controlled by a Zalman fanmate 2, my Ideq is finally quiet enough to be considered a legitimatly quiet HTPC. If you need more info I'm happy to help.
