I see on apples site that they have reduced the ship time, 512s are 1-2 weeks. I'm curious if apple ends up getting them to peope who ordered later but the ship time was less before they get the out to those who ordered when it said a longer time. going with the idea "screw em, they ordered and we gave them a number, so no need to get them to them sooner when we can reduce the ship time for those ordering now"

I got mine from circuit city.com and they only had 1 gigs in stock. I ordered two of them and got them 2 day priority  Its really nice so far. Im trying to figure out the pros and cons of it, but so far I like it |

hrm, didn't bother to check there, i had looked at best buy and they were out. Bah. Oh well, mine should be shipping in a week, just rid it out for now. But still, its pretty pathetic that apple didn't meet their own needs before pimping them to others.

Again Im very ahppy with mine, havent done much other than load quick music on and listen to it on the way to work. But one neat tidbit I learned this mornign that you wont read anywhere else. It doesnt beep going through medal detectors. Now it may at airports where its more sensitive, but not the ones I go through every morning. Saves one step in teh commute, Im thinking of wearing it through next time just so the security guards look at me funny

It takes a good bit of metal to set off metal detectors, I have 4 metal plates in my face and even hand held ones right infront of my face don't go off. I've gone through airport detectors with watches on, coins in pocket and no issue. They are mainly set to detect large hunks of metal like guns. And now at airports they have the whole patting down steps and so forth, so doesn't much matter.
Also a shuffle has next to no metal in it. all there is a tiny bit in some of the chips, and traces in the PCB, and the batter. A quarter probably has more metal then a shuffle

Not sure what airports you go to shoes, but I the ones I been through in the last few months (ORF, LAX, SDF, TUS) go off on the smallest amount of metal. I wear a pair of leather shoes with rubber soles and the only metal on the whole shoes is around the lace holes and they set off the detector every time. Now by default I wear a pair of slip on shoes to get through faster. |

went through SFO and Detroit not very long ago, and Dullas and SJC not to long before that.
They can't make them to sensitive or they will never get anyplace, and now they do the wand check after you go through it anyways.

i went down to bestbuy last night to pick up a shuffle, and the sales person was talking everyone out the shuffle by making a very big deal out of the lack of display. the customers would then get very concerned about the lack of display. he even talked a couple of mac users out of the shuffle telling them that itunes would natively support the samsung flash player he was recommending. i hate bestbuy.

Yeah, what he did was dumb, but i've talked with a fair number of people who can't get past the lack of a screen, they just don't get it.

yeah, the employees at the local apple authorized are no smarter or anymore informed than the retards at bestbuy. i have never been to an official apple store, but i imagine apple would require them to be at least a little more educated. a couple years ago i went to the apple dealer in portland with a friend who is well versed on both mac and pc platforms. the salesman was spouting off some crazy sh*t. my friend just tore him up in front of a group of customers. he got defensive, and kept retorting with absolute bs, and it resulted in a very uncomfortible vibe. i can't even rember what they were arguing about, but i was embarrised for all parties involved. the couple that the sales person was dealing with were obviously pc users toying with the idea of switching, and my friend was, whether he realized it or not, talking them out of the mac platform. the management was happy to see us leave, and i'm sure the sales person went back to selling cars the next day.

I have vowed to just not get into it when i'm in a store and hear the sales person BS, it's just to stressful to get into the middle of that. But if a person is next to me and ask me something i give them a straight answer.
Apple store people piss me off cause they are just so totaly, Windows sucks and you came here cause it sucks and they make up all this crap that Windows doesn't do and so forth. Really made me not want to buy a mac for a long time. Like the computers are nice and everything, but the people just make you want to not get one. Sorta like the switch commercials, they made me not want to get a mac, same for a lot of people, thus why they ended them.

alright, got my i gig shuffle tonight. combined it with the sony MDR-EX51LP headphones. amazing headphones, and they don't scream. "look, I'm a trendy @sshole with an ipod in my pocket!" the build quility on the shuffle is sturdy, and feels very solid. the volume goes up as high as the larger ipods. the sound quality compares with the larger ipods. i had a bestbuy gift card that i've been hanging on to, so i got this thing for 50 bucks. definately worth 50 bucks. once again, the salesman tried to talk me out of the shuffle.
