Just thought you guys might like to know about this..

Rep. Markey has proposed extending Daylight Savings Time by 2 months, beginning a month early and ending a month later. Estimated this move will save 10,000 barrels of oil a day, or 600,000 barrels of oil annually over the 2 months.

This just happened yesterday, so. It still has to be passed by the full House, and then the Senate. There's a lot this proposal has yet to go through.

I wish they'd just get rid of DST.  I also wouldn't mind us just shifting to a 24hour clock.  But I know I am in the minority.

Well, I'm kinda divided on whether we should get rid of it or not.  I can see the uses for it, but at the same time a simple multiple hour shift at some point that is a happy medium between DST and ST with maybe a little extra time to boot might completely absolve the need for it.  Loosing a couple of hours won't really mess up anyone's day or anything like loosing a whole day at some point to make up for something.  The worst that would happen from this is that all the older OS's and devices that automatically adjust for DST would need to be reprogrammed not to do that.  Otherwise a move like that would be pretty painless.  At least from what I can see.

DST was invented as a way to cure a problem of energy consumption in WW2.  IT's really technically not needed anymore today.

I just wish they would make it so that the switch from DST to ST could wait until AFTER Halloween (instead of right before, usually - meaning that drivers are not use to it come Halloween night).

In today's day and age, it would make a lot of sense for it to be lighter later for trick-or-treating.

Why put off what you can do later when you can put it off now
I can explain it for you but I can’t understand it for you
