I have an MSI RS480M2-IL in a Chen Ming mATX-118 case, and I am running into some weirdness.
I have a single Seagate sATA hard drive, and an MSI sATA DVD. I have WinXPSP2 installed, and all the devices show up fine in Device Manager, with only one HD and one optical.
And yet, in Windows, I have a D: local disk, with a question mark on it, a RAW file system, and no capacity. I turned off all the IDE and floppy stuff in BIOS before I installed Windows. Disk Management Console doesn't show it as a device, I can't find it in Device Manager, and yet I can't get rid of it.

Anyone have any idea what this thing is? Or how to get rid of it?

Thanks,
Gordon

No unless the port can create the appearance of a drive. All the USB and FireWire ports are enabled and plugged in to the mobo, but nothing is plugged into the ports.

Hmm....

I hope you figure this out, because I'm in the process of building a clone of your system.  It'll be a couple weeks before I have all the parts.

A little more info. As it turns out, if I look right after windows installs, then both D and E point at the single MSI sATA DVD drive. D: shows up with the generic CD icon, and E: shows up with the icon of the actual CD that is inserted. After I install the SMBus drivers on the MSI CD I get a working E: and a broken D:. I am reinstalling Windows tonight, and will try installing the newest MSI SMBus drivers in the morning (I tried upgrading, and nothing changed).
I did look at the MSI site and they are claiming the XA52P sATA DVD is only supported on Intel boards (what IS this BS. Intel sucks my A$$!)
I would have expected my local computer shop to know this, as they sold me the board and the DVD. I may be switching it out, which bums me, but we shall see.

I will let you all know what happens in the morning.
