This is an interesting story about the Supreme Court decision a while ago. Sign of things to come, or aberration quickly fixed? (by the way, I got this from the NFL, which is a great source of information)

Its only a matter of time before Congress passes an amendment barring eminent domain except in strict public use cases. The only thing stopping it is that hte issue splits republican base in half, and they cant decide how they feel on it.

The good thing is that most conservative pundits are hardcore against this because it's a huge violation of property rights. What suprised me the most about the SCOTUS decision was that most of the "Democratic" justices supported it and most of the "Republicans" didn't. It was a very horrible decision.

If anything, it was a reassertion by the liberals on the court that the government knows best for your land and how much they can make in taxes off it.

I dont buy that Tex, considering its mostly liberals who are leading the movements in states across the country to change their laws so that the government cant do that.

The eminent domain ruling leaves it open to the MUNICIPALITIES to adjudge whether not a parcel of land is eligible for taking under eminent domain (ie whether it construes a "public use"). Therefore, dozens of states (if not more) have already taken up laws barring municipalities from within the state from ever taking private property. The states that have not--well, if you live in one of them, contact your lstate legislators.

I listened to a speech by our former attorney general who wrote the amendment being proposed in our state, and she said that the nubmer was abnout to 34 states.
