Mine was a BOM 23 - be careful that the lack of spacing doesn't confuse you. My BOM 23 only worked with the Toledo E6 core (with 2x1024mb cache) - your 4400+ (e6 Toledo 2x1024) should be the same chip as the one that worked in my SN95G5v2. Denmark core dual-core Opterons should also work (165, 170, 175, 180, 185).

You are right that the Toledo core should have 2 x 1024mb. If it does not, then I think it is technically speaking a Manchester core.

Ah, right you are.

Thanks for your help Rosewind.  I'm going to pass on picking up the 4400+, since my friend is unwilling to spend money on a part that's not guaranteed to work, but I'll gather all the information regarding the 3800+ so that you can add it to the front page and maybe it will help others.  As a last ditch effort, I'm also going to try the XC bios rather than the XD that's currently on there....We'll see what happens!

Thanks!

Okay, a little bit of an update.

I haven't been able to play around with the friend's computer for a while now, but it seems the issue experienced is a bit different.  with the X2 3800+ Toledo in, the computer will cold boot fine after an initial CMOS clear.  The machine can be turned on and off no problem UNTIL any sort of 3D app is launched (perhaps just any sort of CPU intensive task).  Once this happens, the computer behaves normally until you try and reboot- there it will get to the XP loading screen and crash consistently.  Clear the CMOS, lather, rinse, repeat.  The original Winchester 3000+ does not suffer this issue.  This happens with both the XD and XC BIOSs.

Hello Nerdalert. I too am experiencing some strange issues with my SN95G V1.3 BOM 11. I am using an x2 3800+ E6 Toledo. I am runing XD bios as well. HAve you tried to lower your HT multi to 4x?

You need to post the "core" of your 4400+ (Toledo or Manchester?) for your post to be of any help

Sincerely,

Some data for the record...

I have what appears to be an SN95G5 2.0, motherboard FN95 2.0, BOM21. CPU-Z claims I have a Newcastle Athlon 64 3500+ "FF0" rev DH7-CG, 0.13um. Apparently an ADA3500DEP4AW.

My last graphics card,  which I think was an Inno3D Gforce 6800, had crashes and graphics corruption doing 3D with the highest settings. I now have a silent GF7600GS and this works a treat.

I have always had the cold boot problem with every BIOS version to date. Now I have swapped graphics cards, the system is rock solid other than the boot problem. Given that there don't appear to be any BIOSes since 2006 I think I am on the latest.

(I am now hoping to try an x2 4800+ if I can get my hands on one...)

Hi there amh15.

I thought that by now all SN95G5s had been sent into retirement. I moved on to a SG33G6 which may very well be my last Shuttle ... My work provides me with a Lenovo laptop and given the fact that I can hook this into a docking station (and through this docking station all the hardware I could ever dream of), I hardly need a Shuttle these days. Although when I bought the SN95G5v2, I had been wanting a Shuttle for the longest time.

Now, the dual cores will make an improvement. I don't know how available they are. Looking at dualcore Opterons is also an option (Denmark core).

Actually, I still have the Toledo 4400+ from my SN95G5v2 / ST20G5 lying around. The ST20G5 became unstable and worked with only one channel RAM.

Hi Rosewind

It is still a very nice machine that feels quick under XP, and I play games once in a blue moon at the moment, so no real need to replace it - I am sure there are a few others around too! But I quite fancy giving an X2 a go. I reckon a 4400+ to 4800+ x2 has a reasonable chance of working. Are you willing to sell your Toledo 4400+? Was it fully stable on your BOM23?

Cheers

Alan

By the way: Tino bought my trusted SN95G5v2 in a silver case. It may stil be around, too.

Hi Pat7729.

Welcome!

The San Diego is the E4-stepping.I know that my SN95G5v2 BOM 23 didn't like the Venice cores, that's all. Do a search for San Diego and SN95G5v2 and see if that yields anything conclusive.

Apart from this there's only one thing to do ... test it.

I'm sorry, but the Shuttle SN95G5v2 went through several different BOMs, and as for single cores, I don't recall anymore.

Best wishes,
Peter
