FIRST:

The manual says CPU's upto 3.06 ghz
It is a socket -478
I have a 2.6 Northwood in there now.

But I see there are Northwood and Prescotts running at 3.2, 3.4 and 3.6 ghz.

does the manual say that because these higher processors were not out when it was writen or is it a function of multipliers and other settings?


SECOND:

This 200T cam with a 200 watt psu

I see this 250watt is my onlty otion?  No 300 watt?

From my recollection, the 200T is Prescott ready after a BIOS revision, I think up to 3.2GHz.

The only PSU I've seen (and just recently purchased - waiting to receive) is the 250W replacement for the 200T.

Coincidentally, I just replaced my 9800 Pro with an X850 Pro and it's running fine.  But I don't have the PCI slot filled, no floppy drive, just one hard drive and optical - and no OC'ing.  If you don't a much in there, you should be fine with putting the X850 in there.  Ran BF2 on high settings without any problems.  I'm going to replace the PSU "just in case."

i will upgrade to the 250 psu also.

How big a difference did you see between the 9800 pro and the  X850?
what did u pay for it?

I think i may do a fan hole in the side also.

I guess the prescotts are a lil better, they are built on the 90nm as oppsosed to the Northwoods 130nm but probably = more heat.
they go upto 3.8 right now.  i haven done the bios upgrade have you?

A pretty significant difference - went from Medium to High settings on BF2 @1024x768, though I think I can take it higher.  I haven't had the chance to play with it yet.

I paid $250, but I didn't shop long.  Seemed to be the only decent AGP card on the retail shelves around my area, and I didn't want to wait (plus I wanted Xmas to be a bit better for me).  The X850 XT would most likely be a better buy, but I haven't seen it on AGP.

It'll be a good stop gap until I can start building an Athlon 64 system around PCI-e early next year.

It seems to generate about the same heat as the 9800, so I don't think a side fan would be necessary - but if you have that PCI slot taken up, you might need it.

I haven't flashed the BIOS and I don't intend to at this point.  I think a better roadmap forward for me would be the X2 cores (I do alot of video editing too).

It's [the 200T] a nice box though, eh?

Just checked the www.biostar-usa.com website.  Looks like the most it'll support would be a 3.4GHz Northwood or a 3.2GHz Prescott, both at 800FSB.

For me, going up to those would be an incremental performance gain - you might see it differently going from a 2.6GHz speed.

Was the X850 a X850XT or the platinum version?
I see that the X850XT Platinum draws more power, 257W according to Anandtech.
I need to move up as it would be nice to see CoDII and Fear in something better than 800x600 and most features turned off!
