Hi all

I encounter the nv4_disp infinite loop problem (like a lot of people here I guess...) under my system described below.

Two things are a little bit astonishing though :
- the blue screen almost always appear when I am not using my PC (during the night for example : I leave it on but don't use it all night long, and after that I can't wake it up because it has frozen...). I add that I use no screen saver or other 3D software during this time...
- after the blue screen, when I reboot, my BIOS begins to act strangely, displaying the wrong characters at the wrong place on the screen : all the boot-up infos are almost unreadable. I have to shut down the computer and wait a few moment before I can boot again whithout any problem. I thought about a over-heating problem but now my PC is completely open and all fans are running OK.

Last but not least I tried the VIA beta patch and/or the latest NVidia Detonator drivers but it did not help me to solve this problem.

Thank you for your help. :-((

Homer

My config :
ASUS K7M with "latest" BIOS (dated from 07/2000 I think)
Athlon 500 MHz (no overclocking)
256 Mo SDRAM (128Mo PC100 + 128Mo PC133 running at 100)
Hercules GeForce 256 SDR (no overclocking)
Creative SB Live! Value
2 IBM HD (13Go and 10Go)
Tekram SCSI/U2W
Pionneer DVD-ROM drive, Plextor 8/20 CD writer
Accton ethernet card

Hay, I can't offer any help, but since my system is nearly identical to yours i'm somewhat worried. I'm running the VIA4.35 drivers and the latest NVIDIA ones. I don't have any problems at all. Just on a guess here, have you updated the BIOS on that video card? Also, have you downloaded the most recent AMD AGP Minport drivers for your board (NOT OFF THE ASUS SITE)Huh I don't even know if they make them for XP though...
Chipset Drivers for AMD based boards

Hopefully something here will help you....

This is off topic, but do you have instability with the Irongate AGP 2x registry entry on your computer?

First off... I made the mistake of flashing my ASUS card with the NVIDIA reference BIOS... my card essentially failed to work. I had to use winace to pull the bios.bin file outa the ASUS setup and use the reference flashing utitility.

I've had a bit better performance and stability with the official ASUS bios. You might want to try the hercules one.

AGP2x...

Ok, the AMD-751 chipset (our northbridge on the K7M) has a defect. AGP2x fails to work with GeForce256 cards due to a "poor agp strobe filter". There is a registry hack that allows AGP2x (since NVIDIA disabled it in all new drivers) so we arn't forced into 1x. If you dont' know, you shouldn't bother with it...but if you really want to, the reg hack can be found at geforcefaq.com
