I have a MSI K7T Turbo2 mobo with 900 MHz T-bird which just doesn't run. The D-LED signals memory problems. It often hangs just with the D-LED in that position. It occasionally hangs with other hanging-points. I once managed to "almost" install Windows. Somtimes it's possible to run the computer for some time before it hangs. Mostly it hangs right before the initial boot. I've tried totally naked with only CPU and memory as well as almost any combination of CMOS settings, PCI boards, AGP and disks without any difference. The CPU temp is stable around 40 degrees C.

The RAM I'm using comes from two stores that claim the MSI mobo should work fine with it. One set is NoName and the other is TwinMOS. Both are 133MHz and 128Mb.

Is MSI mobo's really this sensitive to RAM, or do I have some other problem?

Clues are appreciated since I'm VERY frustrated.

Thanks, G

I worked on a system recently, and made the mistake of pulling its one DIMM to examine its specs. It was difficult to re-seat, but eventually, I got it back in.

Or so I thought.

For a few hours (well, overnight), this system just would not boot, or even POST. Very frustrating.

Next morning, there was a memory sale, so I decided to pick up another DIMM...and it slipped into its rack much more easily. Still the system wouldn't boot. So I pulled the original DIMM. Ta-da! No problems.

Conclusion: Although both side snaps had apparently clipped, the DIMM wasn't seated properly. I took great pains to get that DIMM installed all the way, and finally the system POSTed and booted, and recognized the total memory of both DIMMs.

Moral: Make sure your memory is firmly and completely seated in the DIMM socket.

It could be the latency is different or the ram sticks arent compatible.Have you tried using cL3 latency setting and default memory settings while installing.I use the default settings when installing to be sure there wont be problems,CC
