Hello,
I am looking to buy a new motherboard.  I currently have an Abit KT7A mobo and would like to also upgrade to DDR.  I have narrowed it down to the following three mobo's.
1. Abit KR7A
2. Soyo K7V-Dragon Plus
3. Gigabyte GA-7VTXH

Any suggestions as to the better one?  I'm looking for stability, speed and use my comp for gaming.
I appreciate any suggestions...

1.4 AMD
1.0 gig of sdram micron
KT7A mobo
60 gig IBM Deskstar
Yamaha Burner
56X CD-ROM
Hercules 3d prophet 3
Hercules Game Theater XP
OS is Windows XP Prof

Since you already have a Hercules GTXP, the Dragon really would not be needed, though it does have some nice features.
I'd think the Abit would be a nice choice...no on-board sound, 6 PCI slots, HPT raid instead of Promise...better for a high performance setup than the Dragon.
I don't know much of the Gigabyte yet, so I can't comment on it right now...but I will take a look.

if you're looking for cost/performance then the Abit is out of the question IMO :-)

You ask a good question. I've been pondering the same for a month now. I decided to wait a few months and stick it out with my KT133 chipset and hopefully the choice will be easier then. Good luck.

I took a look at the Gigabyte too, not a bad board.
It has on-board Creative sound (hardware)& Dual BIOS, but no RAID, so it may come down to what you want or need...do you need RAID? do you want on-board sound? do you want 6 PCI slots?

I think that Asus A7M266 based on the AMD 761 chipset is one of the bst outhere.
Tha bad thing is that it's expensive.
Ask the experienced AMD users I'm sure they'll agree that this is a fine mobo.
Hope I helped.
And something else: Be careful what kind of DDR they'll give you.Let the vendor try it on your mobo ,
to avoid incompatibility issues.

By the way: I wouldn't waste 1 gig of RAM just to upgrade to DDR.
And something else: I wanna buy a HD like the one you have.
Are you satisfied with IBM?
Is it reliable and fast as they say?
