Nice...the new Asus board addressed a bunch of issues w/ the old CSM board: bundled HDTV/svideo output, BIOS update from USB flash drive, smart control of both fans instead of only the cpu fan, some overclocking (I assume this because they have a way to save overclocking profiles).

NewEgg now has 5 AM2 socket mobos listed on their site, but the only micro-ATX version is the Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G.
Price is $84.99.

EP-MGF6100-M is a 6100/410 board.  I'm pretty sure they have a 430 board on the way too, but I'm not sure.  Pretty sure I saw one at the AMD TechTour I went to last week but I'm not sure.  The AM2 stuff currently isn't ont he US page, just the global page.

* PCIe x1/x4 slots located BETWEEN PCI and PCIe x16 slots, or PCI slots located between x16 and x1/x4 slot.  Having the x1/x4 slot next to the processor is dumb.
* Minimum 4x SATA.  Lose the 2nd ATA port.  Anyone running an HTPC is unlikely to have more than 2 IDE devices, and that's wasted space on the motherboard.
* If you put a parallel port on the motherboard, it should be punishable by stoning.  Waste of I/O space, which could be better used for...
* Minimum 6 USB Ports on the rear, and 2 USB headers (4 ports) on the motherboard.

That's all I got for now.  I try and keep a steady upgrade path from my main rig to my HTPC, and since my HTPC is a mATX enclosure, I need near-high-end features in mATX packaging so my main rig never has to suffer.  I never have enough USB ports, hubs be damned, and loved my Abit AT7-MAX2, which had NO parallel or serial wasting space on the backplate.

have we got to the point where we can start listing recommended m/boards in Part 6?

there are a few that comply, but only because there are only three qualifying rules so far.

i really believe that only standard chipset drivers should be allowed rather than vendor proprietry drivers, but what do you lot think?

I like that.  Vendor-specific drivers for a device that has generic drivers never cease to piss me off.

So far only the MSI K9NGM2 and Asus M2NPV-VM look like decent boards.  What's the third?

REPULSIVE location for the ATX plug on this puppie.  It should get immidiately disqualified on that alone.

sorry, there are only three rules thus far, and only the MSI and Asus board comply with both.

if the rule about vendor proprietry drivers is added (as i hope it will be) then it may knock out the Asus board as their last gen A8NVM-CSM board had their crappy Soundmax HD audio driver in place of the perfectly good nVidia HD audio driver.

first nVidia MCP61-S board added.

*edit* shame, i was hoping for the onboard graphics to be  7 series derived rather than 6 series as is the current one.

I don't remember seeing this Asrock AM2 6150 board mentioned:
http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2770&p=18

Funny how it's an Asus subsidiary, but they decided to put a heatsink on the southbridge as Asus should have ;-)

I really dig the layout on that board.  PCIe x1 opposite from PCIe x16, so that if you want to put a mammoth HS (like that Aerocool fanless jobbie) on the GPU you won't kill the PCIe x1 slot that is often next to the PCIe x16 on most motherboards.

Remove the Parallel port and make sure it's got GBe and I'm sold.

i have added the MSI board as a recommended m/b in Part 6 as it does meet all the agreed criteria thus far specified.

Here's to hoping that DFI releases a really good mATX AM2 board - SLI, at least 4 x SATAII, and a wealth of overclocking options. Please deliver, Taiwan.

it took a long time for an SLI mATX baord to come out for 939 and eVGA is still the only one making one, so you'd do better hoping eVGA puts one out.
