Sorry, could not help myself...
No it is not a new MBP, a Macbook, or even a Mini.

It is my Digital Audio G4 Dual Processor at 533mhz. Wife called me this afternoon to say it had arrived.
Really cool beans in my opinion. I never owed a G4 tower. Love the cases.

It came with 512M PC133 (2 x 256), 16M ATI vid, 20G hdd, dvd-rom, and zip 250.
No OS was installed (which I already knew). Luckily my Retail copy of Tiger arrived yesterday.
I did a simple install just to ensure everything works and so far I have tested everything except the firewire.

So far I have pulled the dvd-rom and installed my Maddog 16DVD9 DL DVD burner, and pulled one of the 256M sticks of ram and installed 2 x 512M sticks for a grand total of 1.25G of ram.

Tomorrow my Acard SATA controller will be here and I plan to install it and use the 160G sata hdd I have.
My thinking is to remove the 20G from the system for now (have a copy of os 9 on the way which I plan to install on the older hdd and make it an external firewire hdd for when I need to update stuff like the firmware, etc..).
I will use the SATA as the primary hdd, plug the dvd burner into the ata slot the old hdd was on, and leave the zip on the cable it is on.
This way all the devices are on their own controller and the atapi zip is off the ata dvd cable.

I am also working on getting a 6800GT vid card for this thing to ensure I can push the 20 acd just fine.
I have learned a lot in the last few days on firmware for vid cards.

Anyway, I felt like bragging about my new old system a little.

Is that the cube or the cool plastic case that everyone tried to imitate?

cool plastic case Smiley
I ctually took a SB61 mb a few years ago and built a computer using the G4 case. I ca;;ed it the Sour Apple.

Was really cool, custom did the front usb and firewire for the mb.
Ending up selling off the pieces I used to built it and believe it or not threw away the case last yeat when I was cleaning out my garage.

yes I did, I have not had a lot of time to play with it yet because I do have a vid card that will push my 20" ACD.
I had to borrow my sons 17" lcd to load software and mess around with it a little.

Tiger seems ok, carbon copy of 10.3 in my opinion so far. Loaded iLife06 and spent about 4 hrs transferring my wifes digital pictures over 1 folder at a time to keep them in the same organization there where in on the PC. That worked great just took forever because of how Iwanted it done.

Also transferred my old itunes library into it.

To be honest it was on for several hours last weekend late at night with me (I worked 12hr days all holiday weekend).
I am impressed with the machine as a whole. Very responsive even for a 533mhz machine.  I almost think it is fastest than my ibook.

I have had no issues with my PC MadDog Media DL DVD burner I stuck in it, or the SATA controller and SATA 250G hdd. Loaded Tiger just fine. I ended up loading tiger twice because I screwed up the first time and loaded all the languages and all the printer drivers, plus I screwed up my short name for the machine.

I spent about an hr or so testing all the usb, usb2 ports, zip drive, burner, and lan adapter.  All works great. Still need to test my firewire ports though.

Right now I am desperately trying to get my hands on a 9800 Pro to stick in it.  Then it will be complete and running all the time.

Very quite system, almost dreading sticking the 9800 Pro in due to the fan noise from it.

Wanted to post another update.
This old beast just rocks in my opinion.

Just about fully loaded.
Maxed out the ram today to 1.5G when my other 512M stick came in the mail from OWC.
9800 Pro came in 2 weeks ago? Put an Artic Silencer on it. Damn quiet cools the card and help with the case a tad bit.

Lets have some pics!
My video editing class a couple of years back (gosh! that long already!) we used the Digital Audio DP P.Macs.
I was amazed at what we did w/ a Geforce 5200MX in those machines.
You're making me want to put a mac back into the G3 case I'm modding!
