Why on my Plextor 24x 10x 40x when i go to read cd-rws and cd-rs it will freeze my whole computer up? The only way i can get it to reponse again is hit the restart button. But this is what i do exactly right before it freezes. I put a office depot 80 min (700MB) CD-R or compusa CD-RW in my Plextor 24x 10x 40x cd-rw drive i go to my computer double click on the drive D to see the contents of the cd-rw or cd-r and then it will just freeze after i move around with the mouse or choose something in the contents to copy to my hard drive. This happens pretty much too this freezing and not sure why.

Here are some of my specs.

Abit KT7A raid mobo
CD-RW is on IDE 1 all by itself.
No VIA 4 in 1 drivers installed.
Using windows 2000 pro with sp2
etc

Any help appriecated
Thanks

Enable delayed transaction and pcimaster read caching in bios.
Try a 40 pin standard cable.
Disable dma which is reccomended by Plextor.
Go into bios and set drive manually to pio mode 4
Use only good quality cdrs and cdrws.
Check jumpers on drive.

Let me know what happens,CC

Yep, I agree with CC, its a DMA problem. Set your burner to PIO and your good to go. Also, Georges patch fixed me up bigtime with my burner.

So far i think i fixed it by putting this 2 pin jumper on that in the plextor booklet said to put on if your computer hangs or whatever. So i did that and so far it seems like it worked. But not 100% sure because i still want to make sure. But the jumper post to make it go from its default Ultra DMA setting to DMA mode.
Hope this fixed this.
