We seem to be losing quite a few active folders from our team, wonder whats happening ? We only have 64 active people now.

Could it be because of the low Pointers coming everyone's way, or have people just moved on...and don't care anymore?

Part of it might be the summer heat (northern hemisphere) and energy prices. Personally I've trimmed way back on machines mostly due to expense and HEAT.

cngn, please don't leave us too

Are you just taking a hol (as most aussies do) for a bit or have you left? You have contributed so much in such a short time.

Please drop us a line, our last aussie or at least, downunder mega folder.

Sorry Guys, thanks for the concern.

I'm back with 6 cores compared to the old 8. Lost two cores at work for reasons mentioned below.

I decided to do the two of the most traumatic things at the same time, i.e. Change Jobs and Shift home as well.

Trust the ISP to screw up and decide to kill my connection one week earlier than they should have. So I've finally set my stuff up at the new house I'm renting, and started folding again.

Hope the Team perks up, we do seem to be slowing down and need new blood in here.

Change Jobs and Shift home as well

Great to hear from you. I did the same (change jobs that is) just after coming back from Oz last year when I missed meeting up with you. Hope things settle down as I am sure it will.

All the best with the home move. If all else fails, the beer will help

I agree with Tino. What we need is another request in the SFF section for new blood.

Agreed that not much has been done in the past.  A few things we need to accomplish to pull off a successful team.

1. Find a captain that can spearhead our team and keep us on track to tackle the teams above us.

2. Utilize the folding newsletter. We have folding@sudhian.com which is our folding newsletter. Currently no one has used it but it can be a great way for the team to communicate and especially to keep track of members that tend to stray off.

3. Contests. This is where I come in. We have a very strong following, especially on the SFF side. We should tap this with various contests example any new member to fold 100 WUs qualifies for XXX prize.

Just like everyone, I need a kick in the ass from time to time also.

From folding over the past two years, and watching our team go up and down I’ve come to a few realizations.

We need a way to keep in touch, with these forums and something external to our forums. The success of folding is based on:

1. The commorodity of the team.

2. Keeping current members to keep on folding to the max.

3. Recruitment of new members.

4. Most importantly, keeping in touch with members, we have too many that just dissapear.

How does everyone feel about an e-mail list serve? We can use this to subit our personal e-mails that can be signed up and removed from very easily. This way we can e-mail eachother with team updates, encourage eachother to keep on folding, and have an e-mail address for people that just seem to dissapear for whatever reason. I know I have slipped in my folding from time to time, it’s not because I’ve lost interest, I’ve just lost touch for turning on that other PC, installing it on friend’s PCs etc.

This is something we can setup if people are interested. I think it would be a great way to share ideas and to promote the team.

Thoughts?

Two old post's that you put in this forum a while back when the same thing happened Jasper, nothing that I know off came off either of them, but I think they are idea's on what needs to happen to get the amount of folder's back up again.

I have beena folding member a way way way long time ago.  And just picked it up again last night.  Unfortunately I am getting rid of all of my machines and only have a 3800+ X2 in a SN95G5V3 right now.  I have yet to finish the WU's because they gave me the huge 500000 ala Fah_82's.  I think I have my client set up correctly with all the command lines.  But I should be getting some decent scores once I get some of the smaller ones.

To followup on my old posts.

We do still need a "leader" someone who is willing to spearhead our efforts. This is normally something I would jump at, but time is spread pretty thing at it is. The folding newsletter was a good idea, but no one used it. The idea was to have a list of e-mail addresses from all the members, and use it to encourage others, to give updates etc.

I agree.......I am sure someone that folds often would be willing to be a "leader".  I worked on a simple signature once again since extremeoverclocking seems to be down.  My sig idea isn't the greatest but going to a slimmed sig.  Anyone have any ideas just let me know and I can make it for the masses.

It sometimes isn't a matter of who's folding a bunch. It's a time commitment (something I personally have had zero spare of for a while...). And sometimes efforts are like barking in to an empty room. Frustrating and disheartening.

Posting to the small committed crowd isn't going to get new members, either. It really takes visibility outside of the folding forum.

Well I have alot of time....too much time on my hands.  I am a disabled vet so I don't work I just take care of my kids which now they are in school isn't really that much.  I think the route of giving stuff away to folders like in a drawing, has advantages and disadvantages.  Sure you get new people to join but just for the giveaways and they go back afterwards.  But I guess its just like folding and purely mathmatical.  You get 50 new folders and maybe 5-10 will stick with it long term.  Just me I guess.

Thanks Pixel - would you be willing to "lead the charge" so to speak?

Yeah I am willing...even though I really am semi new to folding.  I haven't folded since my 478 P4 2.8 533fsb days.  So basically what we need is more people to get involved in folding and primarily folding for our team correct?
