AMD has officially released its Socket F Opterons
Socket F has 1207 pins, and the CPUs use DDR2 RAM. These will be dual core CPUs. The  quad core versions are due next year.

This is AMD's new format for the high-end server market, so probably won't matter to most of us consumers.

Why would Opterons matter for Vista?

Glad AMD finally got this socket out.  Now lets see the 4x4 platform, thats what I really want...

When that 4x4 comes out, quad cores will be imminent so should they really make 8x4 instead?

I like the idea of multiple sockets / cpus. Two 100 pound 2.0GHz 3800 X2's are a lot faster and cheaper than one 220 pound 2.6GHz 5000 X2.

(I know! X2's not are not proper SMP like a 2-way Opteron but I can't remember the equivelant models)

edit
why does the site translate pound symbols into question marks?
