Hi all,
I ve just  build a computer. It is a basic computer with MSI K8mm3  mainboard with onboard graphic card , AMD SOCKET 754 PROCESSOR, 1040 mb of ram, and a dvd writer.
I ve just boot it up but I can't hear any POST noise (no bip) , I can see that the fan is working, I can hear the dvd player and the hard disk....... but the screen stay black, completly black......
The monitor work well with my computer (that is just beside).
What can it be? is it a faulty mainboard?
Thanks for the suggestion

If you have an AGP card laying around, I would try installing that to get to the BIOS.  You probably need to enable the AGP RAM in the BIOS somewhere to enable the onboard video to work - that's my guess.  The onboard video must be setup to share a part of your system memory.

Pull all the cards and ram, it should beep. If it doesn't beep then, shut if off, unplug it, pull the cpu out. Now plug it back in and see if it beeps, if it doesn't you got a bad motherbother. If it did beep then you either need to reseat the cpu and heatsink, or you have a bad cpu.

Hi X586,
Ok, I ve just did what you told me to do:
-I first removed all RAM (2x512) and all card (there was none actually...., just sata hard drive) , rebooted and still no bip
-Then I removed fan, then cpu, rebooted without cpu, just sata hard drive plugged, and still no bip.

So, can I be sure it is a bad motherboard then ?

Thanks a lot for your help !

i would say try a different CPU if you have one... if not i'd assume the system board is bad... so you may need to RMA it.

Hi , I don't have another cpu around actually. Can I not asume it is a bad board if it didn t bip when I rebooted without a cpu ?

You do have a speaker connected to the motherboard right ?
It won't hurt to try another cpu as a bad cpu can prevent a MB from being able to use it's beep codes, but you can be fairly sure if there is no beep code with just the cpu and MB then either the cpu or/and motherboard is bad. Barring a few exceptions such as bad psu, but then the fans would not be spinning, or dead bios, and some boards won't beep without a working cpu being installed.

Hi have a stupid question.....You know the way you have the 20 Pin Power connector (JWR1) and also the ATX 12V Power connector (4 pin). I am suppose to connect only the 20 pin connector ? is that correct?
I tried to connect the two , and the is no power when I turn the computer on.......

You'll have to check the motherboard manual on that, as power connections vary from one board to the next. Some use just 20 some use the 20 and a 4 some use 24, 24 and 4,8 etc...
