I personally use CloneCD and the built-in XP software. I feel all my bases are covered. I use CloneCD for all my image cd's and XP built-in for everything else. My music cd's are done with MusicMatch and MediaPlayer.

nero is the best standard burn program.how much are you thinking of spending? I just bought a liteon 24x10x40 burner for $71 on pricewatch, came with nero. you can buy just the software nero from pricewatch pretty cheap !

I agree with the comment regarding EZCD being easier to use. I have a burner in my computer, a burner in one of my teenager's computer, one in a brother-in-law's and one my mother-in-laws. Yes I put them all in.
Not only is EZCD easier to use, its easier to explain to someone over the phone how to use.
I played with Nero myself. Maybe it is the power users choice but the interface is not intuitive to me. CDDB is much easier to use in EZCD too.
And yes, I do know what they say about opinions.

I use nero, don't mind the interface much but it seems to give a bunch of bunk error messages during burns. I've tried it with several different burners and always get the same results, the CDs seem fine too.

I haven't used easycd but do use Nero. I like it and have to agree with Kaanin. Seems to generate error messages even when a burn is successful.

I've had very good luck with the NTI software that came with my burner. Works with Xp and has updates available for free download.

DH Kim, I think the latest version of Roxio EzCD Creator is ver. 5 Platinum, and there is a patch for WinXP users. But you might check the roxio website to make sure.

I have used both, in my opinion I think Nero is better, they offer more updates, have better support and give you quite a few more options when compiling your cd's, I have it on my main machine. I have Adaptec on my laptop and for what I use it for it seems todo its job, just standard data cd's, no fuss no options My thought: If you want a "power" creator with lots of options - Nero If you want a simple "looks pretty", doesnt do much software package - Adpatec

I use EZCD with my Plextor 1210A. Audio or Data I haven't had a coaster yet. I have burned 100+ CDs, both data and audio. EZCD is easy to use, hence EZ. I don't have Nero so I cannot say anything about it.

I use EZCD. Only burned one coaster in the last year. With Nero I made a whole set of coasters. The interface for Nero is poor. Some say Nero has more power than EZCD; but, I've never found a situation that EZCD did not perform well. Current version is 5.0 Platinum.
Good luck.

Might as well add my two bits worth......
I have tried both and stayed with Nero.....
Reasons... 1. EZCD would not burn faster than 1x on the system I was using at the time(166MHZ Pentium). Nero worked fine at the maximum speed of the burner(8x?). 2. Nero would produce an 'intuitive' jewel case cover automatically that could be used most of the time(just don't try editing it!)
I did not notice any significant difference with the user interface. I have never received an error message from Nero that wasn't an error message. (and I hardly ever get them)
Cheers,
Mark

EZ CD Destroyer (aka EZ Coaster Creator) is a crapshoot. If it works on your system, it is a GREAT, easy-to-use all-in-one solution. If not, it causes system instability, lockups, and generally sucks ass. Nero always works... but isn't as friendly or easy to use (hell, they've only supported ISO burning for like 2 versions now, how backwards is that). It's more for power-users. That said, I'm now using Nero exclusively, since EZCDFucker seems to eat my machine on a regular basis. - Gurm

What Gurm said but twice over.
Acraptec / RoachBait essentially build good hardware and software drivers but couldn't write a decent application to save their collective asses.
Pure - Unadulterated - Mouldering - Excrement.
