I have been studying the BIOS for the MSI K7T266 PRO version 1 and 2
using AMIBCP.EXE and I noticed that in all versions the PCI IDE BusMaster is hidden, and set by default to disabled.

Shouldn´t enable it improve performance ?
Why we all use a IDE BusMaster Driver if the feature is disabled at the BIOS level.

Somebody could explain this ?

Thanks Gustavo.-

Gustavo,
"PCI IDE" refers to adding a PCI card IDE controller, not the onboard IDE controller.

Gustavo,
Yes, I'm sure. In fact, the VIA KT266A chipset uses the new V-link bus and not the PCI bus for IDE. Not quite sure why the PCI IDE BUSMASTER bios option is hidden. I guess it is no longer required with the KT266A since it does not conflict with the V-link bus and therefore you dont need to specify whether you're using PCI IDE or not. On the other hand, if you are using a PCI IDE controller(and not the onboard IDE), you may want to disable the onboard IDE to reserve system resources(such as IRQ).

Gustavo,
Quick update. I checked my bios and the PCI IDE BUSMASTER option does show up in the PNP/PCI Configurations section after PCI Latency Timer. Is your Plug and Play Aware O/S set to YES? If not try setting it to YES and see if the option shows up. I'm running BIOS 3.2 with the MSI K7T266 Pro2 motherboard.

At first it worked, but since some time now (1 month?) it does not work anymore. There was a thread where someone asked the moderator and the moderator fixed the problem for that user.

We should originate a thread here also.

Do moderators read the threads ?
Please if someone is reading try to fix it.
