Looks like you're off to a good start! I'd be wary of that panel though, I'm not sure those guys will be able to machine it for you with the holes on the left and right sides.. I think they require a minimum of 3+ mm of metal between openings.

I was wondering about the distance between the openings as well.  I have a revised version I can submit if needed, although I don't like it as much as the one above.  I did receive a response from Karen at FPE just this afternoon, and she only had a question regarding the outer beveled edge.  She didn't mention that anything else looked out of place.  I'm hoping that's a good sign, as pending my response, they have it scheduled for production on the 16th.

Nice work. I was wondering how the LCD was going to be attached; looks like you found a great idea. I can't take this suspense, lol.

Thanks.  Patience... that's what I keep reminding myself.  Believe me, I want to see progress as much as you guys!   ;-)

I've got another small update here, as I had a little to much fun this past weekend.  My headache finally went away this afternoon enough that I could do a little grinding...   :cheese:

Anyhow, here I've marked and drilled the pilot holes for the hard drive mounts.  Nothing to complicated, but I wanted the holes to be accurate.

Since the holes had to be to the outside of the rail as much as possible, I actually had to do a little screw modification.  I had to grind off the excess flange on the screws.  Here you can see before, and after.

In order to grind the flange off easily, I screwed them in to an old hard drive I had lying around, and dremelized 'em.

Here we have the finished rail with all holes drilled and the grommets in place.  Hopefully this will go a long ways towards reducing the nose and vibration in the case.  Now I've got one more rail to go...

This is just a quick update, without an update.  I'm currently in limbo until my panel arrives.  I did have to make a few minor changes to the design.   Due to these changes, I'll actually have to finish some of the work myself once I receive it.  FPE felt that the slots I made for the DVD drives would cause vibrations while milling, and may cause breakage of the panel.  I actually had to resubmit a design in which I made 4 slots for each drive, 2 on each side.  I'm going to have to cut and file out the space between the slots when they arrive.  They said they would run a test panel for me, to see if I needed to change anything else.  If the test goes well, I might get the panel earlier than expected.

I've also got to get the video cards ordered before I can mount the hard drive racks.  I'm unsure of exactly how much room I need above them at this point.  I don't want to guess, and be wrong.  So, for the moment, I'll just wait... and wait...

I've got a small update I will try to post tonight.  The other good news is that they should be shipping my panel tomorrow.  We should see some big changes happening towards the end of next week!

I've got a small update and a couple pics for you guys.  Over the last week or so, I've not been able to get a whole lot done.  So much of my progress has been held up while waiting for the panel.  In the meantime however, I've received almost of of my missing parts.  Including various screws and hardware, in addition to a trio of 60mm fans.

This picture here shows the new aluminum brace responsible for holding the PSU in place, as well as adding structural integrity to the case.  The forward part of the brace will also be used for assisting in the mounting of the laptop drives and the CoolIT cooler.

Here we have a closeup of the countersunk rivets.  It's... well... riveting....  [/lame joke]

Thanks guys!  If something isn't exactly what I want, I will redo it.  I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist.    Lol.

It's just a simple pop rivet gun.  Any hardware store should have them.

As promised...

I'd like to thank Karen and crew, once again FPE really came through for me.  Flawless work guys!  I couldn't be happier with the finished product.  I don't recall how many times I measured and remeasured everything.  It was plenty.  The end result payed off.  Everything fits perfectly!

Lol!  Thanks guys!

I've got so much to do all of a sudden.  For over two weeks, I could just sit back and relax.  Now I can really dig in to this thing.  I've got new blades for my saw, and the dremel is ready to go.  Tomorrow should be interesting...

It took about 2 weeks.  I had to make a few minor changes, and lost a few days, but they generally beat their production estimates.

cool. i think it took like a week and half to get mine. when compared to emachineshop their lead times are pretty good. not only is emachineshop outrageously expensive, but default lead times are at least 1 month. i'm glad we have something like frontpanelexpress.

I've got no updated pics yet, but I am currently cutting out the original Sugo face plate.  That's some damn thick aluminum!  I'm also having to remove a bit more of it than I had hoped.  All should work out though...
