The taskbar in KDE is actually know as the 'kicker'.
Here is a link that shows you how to customise its configuration files and reach the parts of kicker that the GUI configuration tool doesn't. This works on any KDE irrespective of the OS (linux, BSD, OSX, OpenSolaris, etc.)
