Mini-ITX SBC boasts Core 2 Duo, PCIe 16x

Taiwanese board-vendor Acrosser is shipping a mini-ITX single-board computer (SBC) with a 16-lane PCI Express slot and support for the latest Intel processors, including the Core 2 Duo.
...
According to Acrosser, the AR-B1892 SBC supports the latest Intel processors, including the Core 2 Duo, Core Duo, Core Solo, and low-power Celeron. Based on the Intel 945GM chipset, the board supports front-side bus and memory speeds of 533MHz and 667MHz, with up to 4GB of DDR2 memory.
...
Additional features and specs cited by Acrosser for the AR-B1892 SBC include:

    * Intel Core 2 Duo, Core Duo, Core Solo, and Celeron M processors
    * Intel 945GM chipset
    * Trusted Platform Module for security functions
    * Dual Channel 667/533 MHz DDR2 system memory up to 4 GB
    * VGA, LVDS, S-Video and DVI video outputs, support dual display
    * 6 x RS232 ports
    * 8 x USB 2.0 ports
    * 1 x 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
    * Dual SATA-II and IDE ports
    * 1 x PCI Express x16 and 1 x PCI slot

    * Watchdog Timer
    * Intelligent temperature controlled system fan connector
    * "Robust, industrial grade reliability"
    * CE, FCC Class A safety compliance
    * Supports Linux, plus Windows XP/XPe/CE

The AR-B1892 appears to be shipping now. Pricing and minimum volume requirements were not disclosed.
The AR-B1892 appears to be available with a power supply and lightweight aluminum chassis, as part of the complete AR-B0892 system that Acrosser announced two months ago. The AR-B0892 system measures 12.2 x 8.3 x 3.1 inches (310 x 210 x 80 mm), and is positioned as a system that will enjoy long-term product life cycle support.

Mini-ITX Motherboard supports Intel Core2 Duo processor.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, January 11, 2007 - IBASE Technology, a leading manufacturer of embedded computing platforms, releases the MB899X Mini-ITX motherboard that supports the latest Intel® Core(TM)2 Duo processor and the Mobile Intel® 945GM Express chipset. MSI adds interesting Mini-ITX motherboards to their line-up

MSI quietly introduced a couple of very interesting Mini-ITX boards in 2006. We previously reported on their range of products from CeBIT, Computex and towards the end of the year they introduced Geode LX800 and VIA C7 Mini-ITX solutions.

Now I received some information on two more boards that MSI has been working on. The MS-9802 (aka "Fuzzy CX700") is built around a combination of VIA's C7 CPU and CX700(M/M2) chipset, similar to the EPIA EX. The MS-9803 (aka "Fuzzy GM965") on the other hand is a high-performance platform for Intel's Core (2) Duo processors and it uses the Intel GM965 chipset.

MS-9802 (Fuzy CX700/Fuzzy CX700D)
CPU: VIA C7 / Eden
Chipset: VIA CX700(M/M2)
Memory: 1* DDR2 400/533MHz (max. 1GB)
Graphics: UniChromeâ„¢ Pro II integrated
Storage: 2* S-ATA, 1* 44-pin P-ATA, 1* CompactFlash
Expansion: 1* PCI, 1* Mini-PCI
I/O ports: DVI, VGA, 7.1 HD-audio, 2* PS/2, 4* USB2.0, 2* GigaBit LAN, 2* COM
Price / Availability: unknown / now
Note: A very nice solution and an interesting alternative to VIA's EPIA EX if you prefer to have dual NICs and DVI plus VGA instead of those RCA component jacks.

MS-9803 (Fuzzy GM965)
CPU: Core (2) Duo
Chipset: Intel GM965
Memory: 2* DDR2 400/533/667MHz (max. 4GB)
Graphics: Intel GMA3000 integrated
Storage: 2* S-ATA, 1* 40-pin P-ATA, 1* CompactFlash
Expansion: 1* PCIe x16, 1* PCI
I/O ports: VGA, 7.1 HD-audio, 2* PS/2, 4* USB2.0, 2* GigaBit LAN, 1* COM
Price / Availability: unknown / Q2 / 2007
Note: The second Mini-ITX board to feature the 965 chipset from Intel, IPOX's ADE-6040 being the alternative. Both boards will offer a lot of horse-power!

IPOX ADE-6040: an Intel G965 based Mini-ITX board

IPOX recently introduced the first Mini-ITX motherboard based on Intel's G965 chipset. The board's LGA775 socket therefore supports everything up to Intel's high-end Core 2 Duo CPUs with a 1066MHz FSB. Additionally the ADE-6040 appears to feature a PCIe x16 slots (even though some parts of the documentan mention a PCIe x4 slot) judging from the board's photo. These specifications certainly make it (one of) the highest-end Mini-ITX motherboards at the moment. Other notable features include:

# 2* DDR2 533/667/800 MHz (max. 4GB)
# Graphics Media Accelerator GMA X3000 (max. 384 MB V-RAM)
# 2* GigaBit LAN
# HDAC 7.1 audio
# 4* S-ATA

The boards from MSI and IPOX are LGA775, not Socket 479. I think it's confsuing that Intel calls both chip families "Core 2 Duo."

Not a single one of these boards appears to have FireWire.

CrystalCowboy thanks for the information.

I was going for mini-ITX systems but I will wait for the mini-DTX systems, or I will get the mini-ITX versions. The good new is that mini-DTX systems might improve the poor preformance of PSUs and CUBE cases out there at the moment. Cheesy

Wait, is mini-DTX another standard or do you just mean the new DTX small form factor?

I am interested in the DTX form factor, but more in the hopes that it will be powerful and affordable.  I'd love to pick up the Albatron S754 board but at 4 times the price of other nVidea C51 boards, that is a huge premium for small form factor.

Agree, price is way to high on mini-itx, nano-itx arena. Yes, it is correct. Amd introduced two new standards.

DTX and Mini-DTX.

Mini-ITX is 17*17cm, the motherboard
Mini-DTX is 20*17cm, the motharboard

If I am correct that is, what I understand the mini-dtx board will be 20cm wide, adding a bit more space for having two slots as standard, perhaps a PCIe 16X and PCIe 1X or maby dual PCIe 16x for SLI config ? I don't know but since the standards are using standard components and cpus, it should force nice powerful CUBE cases with great PSUs.

Anyway we have to wait and see. I guess we can see the first mini-dtx (and dtx) motherboards within 4-5 months.

I noticed today that Newegg has this MSI barebones computer for $230.

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=Axis_945GM&class=npc

It appears to have the MSI fuzzy 945GM1 in it.  Even with throwing away the case that would make this one of the least expensive Core 2 Duo boards I've seen.

Yeah, that's a very impressive price. If only they had included a FireWire port!
It's got a DVI port, and room enough for a 3.5" drive. I can't tell about the cooling - it looks lie maybe two 60mm fans along one edge?

FYI, the Acrosser AR-B1892 actually isn't Mini-ITX even though everyone is reporting that and Acrosser's press-release also stated it. Checking the board's photo and/or specifications clearly shows that with 20 x 17 cm is has a dimension that you could call Mini-DTX these days...

Re: Acrosser AR-B1892, that board also has the slots on the BTX side of the board...  BTX version of mini-itx???

I like the idea of the slots being on the BTX side just from a thermal management standpoint, but except for custom case builders (like me, so I'm happy), this board will be difficult to use.
