For the increased power demand of the 8800GTX, I added a Thermaltake Power Express 250W PSU in the optical bay. I used a PCI-E molex splitter from the Shuttle PSU and 1 PCI-E power connector from the Thermaltke PSU - efectively splitting the load between the two PSU’s.

The system runs extremely cool and is nearly silent, I have been gaming on it pretty hard and it has been 100% stable.

It was a bit tricky to get the card installed as there is practically no clearence in the front. I ended up removing the single slot PCI bracket from the rear of the card and setting it up in the rear chasis frame bracket (loose) and worked the card into it, then mounted it to the board afterwards.

I am using the Shuttle 300W PSU since I had it already had it installed to power the 8800GTS, however you should be fine with the stock 250W PSU in conjunction with an optical drive bay supplemental PSU.

You know there are sinle slot ATI 3870's out now. I wonder if this is really a better way to go now.

By the way Dworley I think your mod looks great. Can you let us know how you get the cover off? The thing I like about your mod is that it looks neat and keeps all of the heat outside the case. I mean that must keep the GPU real cool.

Also, im curious as why you felt the need for an extra PSU. From everything I read the 300W PSU should be able to handle it on its own. I run the 250W with my system which includes 2 x HDD, 1 x DVDRW, 1 x FX60 CPU, 2 Gb ram, a TV Card and a wifi kit. Im fairly sure im going to get the Sapphire single slot 3870.

LOL - I still check the forum from time to time

I tried the whole water cooling thing in my Shuttle back when I had a 6800GT and X800XT and it did work really well to quiet the system.

The 8800GTX runs very quiet in this configuration so I really did not have any compelling reason to WC again. The new single slot 8800GT or ATI 3870 should work very well in the Shuttle without any mods - except for perhaps the Shuttle Mesh case cover. A single slot water block could  possibly fit if the fittings exit the top and could rotate

I can still easily remove the cover since there is plenty of clearance around the Video car cooler.

Hmm.. so is there enough space for Swiftech MWC60? I think it needs about 3cm at least from the surface of GPU to fit in...

Which model your talking about with the Shuttle without any mods I'm confuse.

And when you means Shutle Mesh Case Cover is this right :

Code:
http://www.computers4sure.com/product.asp?productid=4932356&affid=10000483

Becuase My plan is to buy the Shuttle Shuttle SD30G2 from Newegg put
a Core 2 Duo and a 8600GT but I have to cut out the case Right?

And the 250W PSU is ok to run my setup or do I need a 300W PSU.

There are single slot 8600gt's that will fit fine.
And the 250w PSU is more than enough also. See people with heavy setups powered by small PSUs here if you dont believe me http://www.sudhian.com/index.php?/forums/viewthread/97958/

Just discovered this place. I have a SD30G2B and until recently it had a evga 7900 card in it.
The card went bad on me and I sent it back for RMA, they replaced it with a 8800GTS.
At first I panicked when I realized it wasn't going to fit in the case, but after a little internet
investigation I saw this board and realized I was not doomed.  Cut away the one leg of the
chassis and got the card in no problem. It even runs fine with the stock power supply.

Was just wondering if one of you had a template for the cut out i will need to do to the
outer black case already made up so that I could just print and cut?

Thanks in advance!

yeah yours looks really slick!

do you have a template for that?
would rather not spend all the time measuring and sketching if I don't have to.
