The more I read about this issue (i.e. PCI latency/BW) with VIA chipsets, the more convinced I become that no BIOS upgrade or patch is going to completely resolve this. This reeks of an architectual flaw in the Silicon. Why else would VIA just blatantly ignore this issue? They spent such a long time developing the KT266A chipset. Recall it was very late. The KT266A obviously enjoys some very good performance/features as a result of that Engineering effort. It just baffles me that they have no official stance on this issue!

I was hoping someone had an inside scoop to VIA and the KT333/A design plans, and that they might offer up some insight into VIA plans on resolving this. Can anyone share a glimmer of hope?

I was so close to buying a KT266A based board, and if VIA doesn't come clean on this soon, I am going to buy an nForce based board. I'll have to hack something together for my Linux drivers, but at least I'll have some peace in mind knowing that my PCI-based devices (SCSI controller/Sound card/ethernet) are not being bottlenecked in bandwidth or compromised in performance.

The KT266A's PCI bus isn't bad, once you disable their arbitration timer. I have a suggestion for a future fix, and I already discreetly forwarded it to someone who will be meeting with their representatives next week. I don't know how seriously my suggestion will be taken.

Keep us up on it , Goerge...I'm not buying a VIA equipped board until I see you give the thumbs-up.

The bad part is, I really want to build a new rig & the VIA boards would be a great value...if the chipset was improved...so I'm just going to wait for now.

Wdb Im getting 82/42 with my 694tpro and my 815ep gets 85/44 so theres a problem?I havent noticed any problems with large downloads, compressed files and game rendering programs plus the usual gameplay. My Via mobo gets better memory performance than my Intel does so it hard to be dissastified and it overclocks beautifully with the tualatin. Many have switched to the kt266a and are getting excellent performance so I wouldnt see this issue as unworkable and for Amd users there arent alot of options that perform as well as a kt266a so given Georges comments I wouldnt worry if you are considering getting one,CC

In answer to the original question:

Will it be fixed? Probably not.

Will it matter? Probably not.

Your comments on the kt266a bus are encouraging.  Will disabling the arbitration timer and/or your suggestions for a future fix help the problem of sound dropout and dropped frames during video capture?  Thanks so much for looking into this.
