The SG31G2’s stock 250W is barely enough for a Q6600/8800GT combo so all you need do now is go find the power consumption for each card under load and if the 4850 uses less then you're fine, more and you might have to take a gamble

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_4850_IceQ4/24.htmlthat's what Im worried about Im looking for people with the same specs. You see here, when i check at toms hardware http://media.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_8800_gt/benchh.pnghttp://media.bestofmicro.com/2/X/112857/original/065.gif8800gt runs 152 idle and 247 under load while 4850 runs 131 idle and 251 load, based on that information you can conclude that 4850 actually runs less power on load and slightly higher on load, But checking other reviews there are a lot of discrepancy here's one for tech power up idle http://i6.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_4850_IceQ4/images/power_idle.gifpeak http://i1.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_4850_IceQ4/images/power_peak.gifas you can see, it gives a different result, here 8800gt is 113 watts on idle, which has a 19watts discrepancy on toms hardware, that's roughly 2 lightbulbs lol. and in load, the 8800gt consumes 190Watts and that's a 57 watts discrepancy, now on the same site, the 4850 power consumption is 119watts idle and 208watts load, both values is slightly higher than a 8800gt so I just want to hear a person with the same setup, rather basing on the reviews, since there is a lot of discrepancy

Here is my setup. Shuttle SG33G5B Stock 250 Watt PSU Q6600 @ 3.0GHz 4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 PC6400 (2 x 2GB) @ 4-4-4-12 EVGA 8800GT 512MB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gbs Hard Drive Samsung 20x SATA DVD Burner Linksys USB Network Adapter With all these components the 250W PSU handles it without a hiccup. The sg33g5 has the exact same 250w psu that the sg31g2 hasNot to mention all the AMD setups whose CPUs may not be quads but have the same power consumption. Hope this helps. have fun with your new build Edit: Well, it seems I misread that you were looking for 8800 instead of 4850 I would think there's about 10-15w difference judging from the techpowerup benchmarks you provided. The discrepancies between the two reviews on tom's is likely due to them using different cpus, mobos etc from each other since they were taken at different times. I do believe it will work with the 4850, but your overclocking will be limited. Plus, an RMA is the worst that could happen

Hey guys, my first post is to let you guys know about my new setup. I just built myself a new PC using:
SG33G5 case; stock 250w power supply Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive LITE-ON Black 20X DVD burner Sony 23-in-1 USB 2.0 Internal Card Reader w/ USB 2.0 Port EVGA 512-P3-N975-AR GeForce 9800 GT 512MB Video Card
Software wise I'm running a dual boot with Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate Edition and Ubuntu Linux version 8.10 64-Bit version. The computer has been running ok for about 8 hours now. I searched the forums, but didn't find anyone with the same case and video card so I took the gamble and bought the card and figured I'd let you guys know if it worked.
Now I do have a few questions, from what I've read on the forums, I might be pushing the PSU to it's limit. Would you guys recommend I upgrade my PSU to the 300W model which I think is my only option? Also what temps should I be expecting? Right now my temps at idle (just surfing webpages, outlook and word 2007 open , and listening to music) are: case temp is about 46-48C, my CPU is 42-44C, and my video card is at about 58-60C with it's fan at 60%. The case is luke warm, and the power supply is warm but not really hot. I currently have the ICE fan set to SmartFan in the Bios (for some reason the XPC tools doesn't work in Vista 64Bit) and every thing is running at stock speeds and I don't plan to overclock anything in the system. I still can't believe the power we are able to put into such a little case. All I can say is Shuttle, you have a new lifetime customer. My scores in Vista are 5.9 for eveything which is the highest score possible, except for the HD which got 5.7
So what do you guys think? Any comments or recommendations on fan speeds or my PSU?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
I have a 2-Year old SK22G2 SE with a 240w stock PSU. I'm planning to upgrade it with the following: (from and to)
a)AMD Sempron 3000+ ---> AMD Athlon X2 5600 2.9ghz @65w or Athlon X2 6000 3.1ghz @89w b)Gainward Nvidia 7100gs ---> Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 DDR3 512mb 128bit c)Transcend 1x2gb DDR2 800mhz ---> Corsair XMS2 2x2gb DDR2 800mhz d)Seagate 80gb IDE ---> Seagate 500gb 32mb cache SATA
I would also like to add the following that are already available in my system:
Creative Sounblaster 5.1 Soundcard Kworld External TV Box 1680x1050 LG DVD Multi Drive 22x Lightscribe LG W2252TQ 22" 2ms 10000:1 DFC LCD Monitor Altec Lansing VS4121 Speakers or Logitech X540 5.1 70 watts Logitech Mouse & Keyboard Sony Card Reader External HDD for the old 80gb Seagate Asus USB Bluetooth
I would like to know your comments and suggestions.
Will there be any PSU issues? According to Shuttle's support list for SK22G2, the latest videocard supported is the NVidia 8600gts and AMD 6000+ 125w 3.0ghz as for the processor (not updated regarding the re-released Athlon X2's).
I hope the 240w PSU candle this coz I don't have plans of upgrading it and while it's still early I hope you can help me out so i can do the necessary adjustments on the PSU and upgrade it to 300w.

It should handle it all with no problems. On the first couple pages of this thread, there are some ST20g5 and SN95g5 users that have the same 240w PSU you do, running more power intensive components. Especially since your hd4670 does not require extra power through a pcie plug.

But the real question is, who will be running the gtx295? Frame rates are sick tbh http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-295-preview/5Wattage is lower than gx2 @ peak?

Hello all,
I'm a noob here. I just built my first XPC. Here's what I built:
SG31G2 (w/ stock 250W silent-X PSU) Intel Core2Quad Q6600 (G0 stepping) @ stock Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 (mild OC to 778/1140) 2 X 2GB G. Skill DDR2 800 WD Caviar Blue 320GB HDD LG 22x DVD burner Dell E197FP 19" monitor Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers, THX certified
The humble overclock on the GPU was done safely through max OC settings in ATI's CCC software.
All is stable and running Vista 32-bit seamlessly. I originally had a Geforce 7900GS, but replacing it with the HD 4670 raised my 3DMark06 score from 4083 to 8094. The OC raised the score again to 8711.
I'm happy!

Hi all! I was looking for a forum and opinions about this trick. (crap english inside) Running a 4870X2 on a Shuttle 450W PSU My actual system: SX38P2 pro E8400 @ 3.6 Ghz, voltage auto. 4 GB of Gskill @ 400 Mhz, 4-4-4-12, @ 1.9v (4 sticks / 1 GB) Sapphire 4870X2 @stock And of course, harddrive, dvd-burner, 6 USB peripherals, etc... When I bought the 4870X2, my CPU was a E6400 at 3.2 Ghz. The system was running quite fine, but when launching a heavy 3D app (Crysis, Vantage, etc...) the shuttle was allways turning off suddenly. Total power consumpsion was of approximately 400W before crashing. So I tryed a trick. Like many PSU, the 450W Shuttle PSU got two 12v. Both of those 12v can deliver 16A. The first one is used for the motherboard 4 pins connector, and the second one for... the rest (the 6 pins, all sata/pata connectors, etc). Looking to the power consumption of the 4 pins connector with a dual core, 16A is just enormous, while 16A for "the rest", including the 6pins and the 8pins adapter required by the 4870X2, is just not enough. The "trick". The 6 pins connector of the 4870X2 is powered normaly, with the 6 pins connector from the PSU. But for the 8 pins, I've build a custom adapter to take the power from the 4 pins connector. I mean, the 4 pins on the motherboard, which is powered by the over 12v rail. The system is runnig for month, total power consumption under Crysis / Vantage is of 410W with the E6400 @ 3.2 Ghz. More recently, I bought a E8400. Yes, it's not really more powerfull than a E6400, but @ stock (3 Ghz), power consumption goes from 410W to 380W, and at 3.6 Ghz, it's less than 390W. Since the power consumption of the GTX295 is better than 4870X2's one, quite sure this awesome 3D card can run on a 450W PSU without any trick. Thank you for reading

From current sig: * Shuttle SG31G2B * 300w Shuttle PC50 PSU * Core2Duo E6850 3GHz (running at 3.33GHz [9x 370 FSB] and using stock Intel fan on ICE) * 4GB OCZ 800MHz DDR2 (set at 667 and eventually running at 741 when overclocked...) * 2x Samsung 1TB SATA2 HD (one not permanently installed, for backup cloning) * XFX NVidia 9600GT 512MB GDDR3 PCIe2 x16 graphics (basic model - bios overclocked to XXX edition [700/1750/1000 speeds] using NiBiTor) * Linksys PCI WLAN WMP54G * LG DVD RW / Bluray & HD-DVD ROM Zalman VNF100 for the NVidia, and Scythe Mini-Kaze 40mm silent fan arriving tomorrow. 9600GT fan is just a monster (and the 100% thing when you are not running an OS/driver really does get on my nerves), and the Scythe mini fan will go under the drives and push air toward the ICE/Intel fan. This has also helped drawing air in through the sides while testing with an older fan, and should team up with the ICE nicely to take heat away from the VNF100 heatsink. I can't wait for peace and quiet! I also run Mac OSX with full support in this rig, though i have yet to try high-def video playback through the LG. I posted a guide over at insanelymac.com if anyone is interested: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=155664

Hi All,
Just repeating my current sig here:- SG31G2 Q6600 XFX 9800GT Seagate 500GB 7200 SATA 32mb 2 x 2GB Kingston LG DVD/CD RW Litescribe Samsung 2443BW 24" TFT Vista Ultimate
Stock 250W PSU Everything running fine and dandy! What's this I often read about XFX fans being noisy....this is quiet as...if anything, slightly more noise from ICE fan than the 9800GT. Cheers.

Thanks to everyone. This site helped me out big time. Here's my first Shuttle. It's been running for a week straight with no problems.
Shuttle SP35P2V2 Core 2 Duo E8400 Diamond Radeon HD 4850 GeIL Black Dragon 4x2GB 5-5-5-15 WD Caviar Black WD1001FALS - 1TB LG GGC-H20LK Bluray Crystalfontz DB631BK-RMF-KU2 Logitech diNovo Edge 2 + Razer Mamba
Everthing is running at stock. Idles at: CPU 37c / GPU 53c On Load: CPU 41c / GPU 60c
I reversed the CPU fans but now I'm a little worried about the GPU. Hot air is blowing right on it. It might be a problem when summer comes.
Thanks again to everyone.
Edit: So I added the Hauppauge HVR-1600 TV tuner card and it was a snug fit to say the least. A couple of soldering points that holds the metal case for the cable tuner was actually stopping the graphics card fan. After trimming just the bottom two (The top two I left to push the graphics card away to let some air in) the fan was spinning fine again. It's a tight fit and of coarse the heat went up for the GPU. It idles at 60-62c and when watching TV in 7MC it goes up to 66c. Still acceptable for me. I haven't played any games yet. The GPU fan is much louder though as there isn't much space. It kind of whistles, ha. It's in a loud room so not that much of an issue for me. The CPU temps remain the same.

SN68G2-
Mine is the stock 250W-runs 24/7 for about a year now. (purchased 3/7/2008)
Built it with these components.
AMD 4400+ X2 (2.3GHZ) (left over from an upgrade) 4GB of Corsair memory DDR2 800 MHZ 120 GB WD (sata)(Left over from something) GIGABYTE GV-NX86T256H GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3-awesome card displays anything I have thrown at it, and it fits! Hauppage HVR 1600 in the other slot- LITE-ON SATA Internal 4X Blu-ray DVD ROM Shuttle card reader in the floppy slot Shuttle Wireless (worthless) Vista Home Premimum(32 Bit) Vista Experience index 5.0! The Blu-Ray player worked beautifully, I have recently purchased a Samsung that stand alone BD player so I swapped out the BD for a DVD Burner (Lite on also) so that I can burn HD recorded TV shows from Vista( takes a long time but works)

I just installed the 300watt powersupply in my SG33G5. I've got the following running in it:
Intel Q6600 OCd to 2.7ghz 4 GB Patriot RAM Samsung 320 GB SATA HD Seagate 750 GB SATA HD DVD CD-RW Drive Nvidia 8800GT 512MB My Book 750GB
Works great. No problems. I'm running OS X 10.5.5 I was dual booting but I found myself not booting in XP at all so I got rid of that partition.
