Stock SG31G2(v1) - whatever stock power supply was, I think 250? NewEgg said 250, but I'm too lazy to crack
OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
500 Gig Western Digital SATA drive, Asus DVD-RW SATA (no idea model, 25 bucks from Newegg)
Belkin 4 port USB add-in PCI card
PNY 512 NVidia 8800GT
Intel Q6600 Quad Core (Stock, no OC)

Rock solid for a year, gaming is mostly Steam Rainbow 6 Vegas/Vegas 2, a bit of WOW)

Handbrake CLI + Quad-core... heaven.

Never a single crash or reboot from heat/power issues. Love this machine. Pondering GT(X?)260+ cards, but for me, the 8800 still seems fine - guess I'm not hardcore enough.

(Update - SG31G2, not whatever model I made up in my head... sorry, mistype. Darn you, Merlot!)

The SG31G2’s stock 250W is barely enough for a Q6600/8800GT combo so theoretically an E8400/HD4870 setup would be fine with the upgraded 300W PSU from Shuttle, but I’m gonna be picking up the Thermaltake Toughpower Express 450W PSU to power the HD4870 alone...should work out nicely.

220W PSU
SD11G5
Pentium M 2.00GHz
2GHz RAM
9600GT Low Power Galaxy 512Mb GeForce

It didn't work at first, so I scaled down the CPU overclock (from 155MHzx15 to 140MHzx15, stock is 133MHzx15), and switched the BIOS settings for PCI-E auto > PCI-E enabled and VGA compatibility 1.0a > 1.0

Not sure which settings were essential aside from the CPU overclock, but it works and does well in 3DMark. Scores over 3000 for GPU tests, 800 for CPU?

Hi

I have the following system:

Shuttle SN78SH7 (with stock 300W PSU)
AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6GHz AM3
Belkin Mini Bluetooth USB Adapter - 2.1EDR / Class 2
Edimax EW-7711UAn Wireless-N USB Adapter
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Cache - OEM Caviar Blue
Kingston 4gb (2x2gb) Ddr2 800mhz Memory Non-ecc Cl5

I'd like to get a decent single slot graphics card for this machine.  Because ATI driver support in linux is poor, I'm limiting my choice to Nvidia cards.

Would I be able to run a Galaxy GTX 260+ Razor Edition?  I noticed that this card has two PCIe power sockets, so I'd need to use a molex adapter to get the second set of leads.  Would my little old Shuttle be able to cope?

SK22G2 SE (240W PSU)

A64 X2 4800+ @ 2.5Ghz
2 x 2GB Kingston DDR667
XFX 9600GT 512MB
Western Digital 160GB Sata
XPC PN18 Wireless Card
LG DVD-RW

recently purchased the 9600gt to replace my 8600gts, and the 9600gt doesnt require any extra power connector.

did purchased a XFX 9800gt but funny thing is that it booted into windows but there's no display shown even at BIOS start up. Any idea why is it like that? and also i realise that the 9800gt i purchased was without a power connector, apparently the shop that i purchased from told me the newer batch of 9600/9800GT's doesnt come with the 6pin connector anymore. (thus replacing it with a 960gt instead, was hoping it could run the 9800gt)

was really curious why it couldn't display anything while it successfully booted into windows. (how i knew it booted to windows it's because of the windows startup sound was on)

SX48P2 - Deluxe
E8600@4.0
BFG GTX280 OC
8 gig XMS3 Dominator 12800
3 x AAKS 500gb HD's

downscaled my SLi rig into this box and took the hit on some DDR3, runs Windows 7 very well and now thinking of an X-25 SSD HD, dominator memory was real tricky but it's in and wont be coming out anytime soon Smiley

Shuttle SG45H7 (300W)
Q9550 @ 3.4GHz (400*8.5; 1.104v idle, 1.09v load); also runs at 2.83GHz with 0.99v idle, 0.96v load; gets to 4GHz stock volts (1.18) if I take out two sticks of RAM
8GB (2GBx4) DDR2-800 (4-4-4-12, 1.825v)
HD 5850 (750/1000, 1.00v)
640GB WD Caviar Black
Lite-On BD Drive

No problem with the performance, but it gets hot! Especially since I yanked off the NB cooling and went passive..

New member! Long time lurker! Awesome site for SFF info.

Shuttle SX58H7 500w PSU Powering:
-SX58H7
-i7 920
-OCZ 6Gb (3x2Gb) DDR3 1866
-ASUS ATI HD5870
-160GB Intel SSD G2
-LG HDDVD/BDRom

I'm running it with an MSI GTX 480 at the moment /w the i7 @ 3.3GHz, but I've got a Thermaltake Toughpower 1200w hooked up to it instead of the 500w PSU since it won't boot with the supplied PSU. I see the new SX58J3 with a GTX480 option so that confounds me.

doh! I can't put up any file attachments right now.

My power supply can handle it now!  :-)  This is my first shuttle system and my first time here! I'm loving my SX38P2 experience. From day one I couldn't stop tweaking this lil box. It's a great platform. Wish there was a sticky'd thread for modding it!

Though the noise from the factory 450 watt power supply was killing me. It may handle my system but, I couldn't handle it! After researching the options, I decided not to down grade to a 400 watt supply. Not when I wanted to put in a 9800GX2 So, I decided to mod the case instead. Besides the welcomed extra 200 watt's of power, comes the quietness and extra cooling from the new PSU. It's whisper quiet now. I actually have to walk over and lean in to hear if it's running.

For everyone trying to find the breaking point of the stock PSU, it's only a 16a rail. If it was a single railed power supply, then it could easily run a 9800GX2. But, it's a dual rail with 16 amps running to the CPU and the other 16 amps shared between the video card and peripherals. 192 watt's isn't enough overhead to continually run the card and components long term. That's just begging for something to burn out. And, the PSU is the cheapest component in the system that could burn up. With a $600 video card going in, I'm not going to chance it.

For those looking at total wattage, YES, the total wattage of my over clocked Q6600 and 8800 GTS is only 255 when pushed. It's a great setup for the 450 supply.

The only thing I was considering using instead was a 650 watt Ultra Power supply. I love there Flexible cables!!! Would have made the install easier. Also, Tuniq makes a 950 mini plant that fit's and is quite. But, no modular cables at all.

umm... maybe it´s just me but why isn´t this mod getting way more attention?  this is probably the most significant and impressive mod i´ve seen done to a P-chassis

How did you do that? Because the connector of the Thermaltake is a ATX power connector and the Shuttle isn't. Or is it?

Hello guys, I have been lurking around for a while

I purchased my shuttle XPC back in 2006, here are my settings:

Model: SN21G5
Processor: 2.0GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 (939 socket)
RAM: 2GB DDR 400
GPU: Nvidia 7600GT
Storage: WD 256 GB HDD
PSU: stock 250w
OS: Linux Ubuntu 9.10

In all these years, my computer has never shut down and only froze once while playing WOW. There was a lot of players around me and a lot of enemies. I think the system overheated or something, but the strange thing is that I played under similar circumstances many times after that and never experience that problem again. The system has been pretty stable all these years. I am thinking in upgrading my graphic card. I know that the 9800GT works fine with my current PSU. So maybe I will get one soon to get better performance in games.

I have a question, I am also considering another possibility, but I don't know if is even possible since I haven't find any info on the web. I would love to get a Fermi based video card. I know my 250w PSU will explode with that and even if i could upgrade my PSU somehow I cant even install a dual slot card in my XPC. Do you guys think it is possible to take out the mother board from my XPC to keep all my stuff and just put it in a new case with a brand new power supply and CPU cooler? will that work?

I have a SP35P2 with a Q6600 Quad core CPU (running stock speed), 4GB RAM and a Nvidia 8800GT in it. One of my friends is looking at getting rid of his Nvidia GTX 295. Will that fit in the SP35P2 case, and is the power supply rated enough to power it?

Thanks in advance.
