(just copied from another thread)

Hi I am new to the forums this is my second shuttle build but I am looking for some information as well. I just built a SH55. Here are my specs and what I am running.

Stock 300w PSU Bronze Certified
Intel i5 750 2.6ghz (not overclocked)
8GB of GSkill Ripjaws (2x4gb) (1003)
EVGA 460 GTX 1gbDDR5 256bit
Windows 7 64-bit
WD 500GB Harddrive
LG Disk Drive (Can't remember the model)

I Bought Starcraft 2 and played it for 3 hours straight on high graphics, I never had blips, freezes, anything wrong it. I took the case off and I felt no signs of excess heat. I don't have a temp monitor yet on my computer to tell you exact numbers but I feel pretty confident it can handle other games.

My goal is to upgrade the Power supply regardless and look into liquid cooling at some point. I built this mainly to run Lightroom 3, CS5 and process a lot of photos at once but I also game so I wanted an all in one system. No complaints so far. I heard the Sh63 PSU (500w) Can be used on these machines, anyone using this? I want to know how loud they are compared to the stock psu.

Can someone help me to verify if this configuration will work:

SH55J2
i7 860 2.8Ghz
2x 4GB G.SKILL Memory
1x Seagate 500GB SataII 3.0 Drive
1x PowerColor 5750 GO Green! 1GB Video Card
1x DVD-RW LG Drive

Can someone let me know if they think this config will work on the 300w PSU?

I'm also concerned about cooling, since this is fanless will I need to cut a hole in the side of the case and strap a fan? Or are the newer shuttles better quality. I haven't built a shuttle in about 6 years so not sure if they've gotten better in air cooling now that cables are smaller.

My goal is to purchase this before end of December.

Thanks!

My setup:

Shuttle SD37P2 with 450W PSU (PC-55)
Intel E6600 @ standard speed
4GB PC-8500 DDR2
Nvidia 8800GT
OCZ Vertex 2 60GB
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB
DVD drive (placed outside of the case.)
1x 120mm fan casemodded on the upperside, so the heat should not be a problem.

This setup is running perfect, but I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the Nvidia 8800GT to a Nvidia GTX 465 1G.
Anybody tried this yet?

Well, you could probably run the 465, but I strongly discourage it. Get a 460 if you need nV or wait a couple weeks and watch as prices should drop as the new AMD cards hit the street.

Everything I've read says the 465 is basically an awful card for what it delivers.

yea gtx 460 most bang for your buck without breaking that sh55j2 300w unless you get PC63J PSU upgrade

P.S. so far europe and australian stores are the only ones i have found on the web that offers the PC63J and all of em only ship nationally at the moment... but i stumbled upon one aussie site that ships internationally a03.com.au if you wanna lay down $177 + shipping go right ahead i would wait till it comes available stateside (of course if u live in the US) to upgrade your PSU

SN27P2 (400w/450w max PSU)
AMD AM2 6000 (3Ghz)
4Gb RAM
500Gb IDE
2TB WD SATA
Pioneer DVD-Writer
Gigabyte GTX 560 (900Mhz factory OC)

Second GPU upgrade, #1 MSI 8800GTS-640Mb, #2 Sapphire ATI 4870

Was looking for the 1000Mhz clocked GTX 560, but was concerned about heat, power and poor availability.
GTX 560 is slightly shorter than the 4870 it replaces.

Just for the record I had the following running:

SG33G5
2x4GB (8GB total) G.Skill DDR2 800
PowerColor HD 6850 1GB (single slot)
Kingston 64GB SSD
1TB Samsung Spinpoint
DVDRW

Has 250W PSU. It ran without issue. However power draw from the wall was ~ 280W so it had to be approaching the limit of the PSU. I hooked up my 500W Corsair PSU just to see if power draw was restricting performance, and it actually only peaked at about 265W. So perhaps running near max potential the 250W Shuttle PSU was losing significant efficiency. One could imagine that it wouldn't live a very long life if continued to stress at that amount.

That being said, I since returned the RAM and video card and am getting an SH67H3 and using my GTX 460 I already have. Hopefully the 300W PSU in this machine will be sufficient. Will report back when build and testing is complete!

Just finished building my SH67H3 with stock 300W PSU with the following configuration:

i5-2400 (95W)
eVGA GTX 460 (SuperClocked)
2x4GB DDR3 1333
Intel 80GB G2 SSD
Hitachi Desktar 2TB
Samsung Spinpoint 1TB

This thing is quiet and runs cool at load, idle is a bit high, about 40-43C for CPU and 40C for GPU with cover off. But at load, neither exceeds 62C

However, the 300W is definitely not sufficient to power this machine. My Kill A Watt reports about 300W from the wall when at max load, and with Furmark it will sometimes just crash. So going for PC63J. In this case, no the 300W PSU is not adequate. But I guess I kind of expected that.

The Shuttle 300W PSU is an 80PLUS rated PSU, which means it has atleast 80% efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% usage. So that means that it is probably using 250W internally, but pulls 300W out of the socket. That also means it's running at about 80% usage, the Shuttle PSU is rated at 100.000 hours MBTF at 75%, so you aren't in a lot of problems. The 250W would probably not going to last very long at 100% usage though.

Well I ended up getting the PC63J, and runs great. But Furmark keeps crashing my system still, so perhaps an issue with my video card, I don't know.

Try furmark on the v1.06 BIOS.

New to this page and forums, found it while doing research on my first barebone build.

I'm currently building this and waiting for a few parts, but hopefully everything will work well when it's finished! I'm living and working in Korea, so I couldn't find some of the recommended parts from the Shuttle website. I'm crossing my fingers that everything will work together (mostly concerned about RAM)!

SX58H7 Pro
500W PSU
Intel i7 950 (3.06GHz)
8GB Hynix PC3-10600 (DDR3/1333MHz) (4GBx2)
Emtek HV GeForce GTS450 Star SE D5 1GB
Intel SSD 80GB (320 Series PVR G3)
Seagate HDD 500GB (7200rpm/16MB SATA 3)
LG DVD Multi-Drive
Windows 7 Home 64-bit

I'm mainly concerned about heating and having a quiet system. If everything runs well I'd like to upgrade the graphics card. I'm interested in what people recommend for a quiet cool higher end graphics card, surprised to see people with GTX580 and the likes running!

I am a little intimidated by setting up the BIOS, especially because I want to use the SSD for booting the OS and HDD for storing other files. This will be my first build!

Hello,

Need some advice on upgrading my Shuttle SA76G2 V2.

Current Config
---------------------
250W PSU (Stock)
Onboard ATI RV610 video
200 GB ATA HDD
DVD ROM Drive
2x1GB RAM Memory
Using 2 USB ports (back)
Keyboard
Mouse
Sound
---------------------

I'd like to upgrade the video card to an nVIDIA PNY 560 video card (single slot), a usb driven card reader.

I need more power, so I'm thinking of buying a 400 Watt PSU.

Are there any issues putting in a larger capacity PSU into a machine that came stock with a 250W Power Supply?

Thanks,
CH

Providing they are the same form factor there should be no issues with regards to upgrading your PSU.

Hi,

Thanks - I just put in a 400W PSU from KDM Power, Item#320830827038 (on EBAY).  It was easy to install and now I've got a PSU that can totally supply my new PNY nVIDIA 520 1 GB RAM GPU (that is really great for gaming) and a 3.5 inch bay card reader.

Thanks,

My first Shuttle at last Smiley been using a "Cooler Master Stacker" since 2005 with 8+ HDDs which is now stored away as a fileserver and trimmed down to only 6drives Smiley so the difference is huge Cheesy

Abit scared about sufficating the fan of a future GFX card, since they are placed to damn close to the chassis. (my old (3years or so) card (GeForce 8800 GTS) lasted less than a month in this chassis).
Also scared about air flow and the heat which a strong gfx card delivers to the rest of the chassis.

Shuttle SX58H7 Pro XPC Barebone
500W PSU
Intel i7 960 (3.2GHz)
Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1333MHz 8GB KIT (4GBx2)

XFX Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3 (stolen from my server until I find out what would work well on this)

Corsair SSD Force Series GT 120GB
Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm SATA 3Gb/s 1.5TB
Plextor DVD recorder PX-716SA SATA

Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit
