So its time for another update. I came back from holidays and first day off I worked a bit on that internal cage. As you can see I stopped calling it drive cage, cause now it also takes 120mm radiator with fan, apart of hdd and dvd. Here's a picture of two acrylic plates, top and bottom of that cage. Structure will be same as previos cage - 4 chrome rods and two plates. This time I have to cut a hole in the bottom for radiator exhaust. Two plates with chrome rods: Tried the radaitor if it fits... Looking ok, all fits nicely.. ..and here's after cutting this radiator hole. Still needs nice finish and polishing of course... Also have a small mod on the side here - came back with my brother inlaw's side panel of the case. He wants a nice red window in it with 120mm fan blowing inside on his graphic cards in sli. We tried to cut the panel with small metal hand saw, but it didn't work:) Also some huge electric saw didnt work - only burnt a panel a bit:)) I will cut it again with my new Dremel:)

Another update: internal cage - done. Filed the edges of both panels, cut long holes for velcro belts and put them in. All fixed. Here's how it looks like: its a bit dirty, expecially on the edges, you may see some white powder which makes edges uneven, but they are straight, only it looks like not. I will polish edges with dremel and some compound later, when finish PSU plate. It pretty same as previous, only this one is standing on its panel. Plus, it will keep 120mm radiator at the lowest, then fan, hdd on velcro strips and finally dvd on top of it (unless I find the way to install dvd on top of the cube like planned to...)... Now going back to measure the hole for PSU and make red back plate for PSU which will keep it a bit outside with some extentions...

Just a thought.....what are you gonna do about vibrations there? I personally would put a silicon silencer there for TWO reasons. One for silence and two in case of static discharge ( which is a concern with all Acrylic cases )

Small update: found some time to do sth with my cube yesterday. I'm pretty busy doing my kitchen lately, but found few hours to work on the beauty;) Finally got all parts for my water loop so started to put it up. It will go from the pump to GPU block and then to both radiators - 2x120 and 120, then comes back to the pump. In small loops like this order doesnt matter so I decided to go with easiest route. Well.. I had to use on 90 degree elbow and one 90 degree barb converter for 120 radiator cause in lower level is so tide I couldnt fit tubes in there. Heres all stuff for loop. Almost forgot to show this - finished cutting hole in bottom panel for 120 radiator exhaust. Red piece of acrylic is PSU back frame which will keep PSU outside of the case - I think 2-3cm will be enough to squize everything else inside. Here's few shots of my sweet sexy GPU block... These are all parts of full cage I made: cage itself, 120 radiator, YL red led 120mm fan and foam gasket I made myself - bought a cheap mouse pad and cut it off:) Here is fan installed on rad using 30mm black cap bolts. Few shots of running fan: Here's a full cage folded - you can see here how I cut the hole in bottom part of the cage - fits perfect with hole of radiator.. Cool. That would be it, for now. I have no idea what to do next actually.. I would have to install everything in cube to measure and cut tubes and then run leak test of the loop. Next would be installing loop with the system. Next are the side panels and gluing the letters and biohazard signs I think. Biggest problem will be front panel and cutting all the holes it needs... Still, the big unknown is what I'm gonna do with dvd. I decided no matter what - to fit it on top, so I believe when I will have my loop installed and all system running that will be the time to check if it will work... So.. I'll try to do sth soon, I promise:)

And static discharge - I know we had that conversation before when started this project, but is it really a problem?

Not an udpate, but wanted to show sth... new upcoming mATX SLI mobo.. for i7:) What can I say.. imagine this baby inside this PHINIX CUBE... Wooohooooo.... SLI on mATX mobo... with i& CPU... that's ... PREETY... Unfortunately I would have to rebuild colling system for those. one 240 and one 120 won't be enough... I would have to push in at least two thick 120.2 PAs... and that won't be possible when I already found a lot of troubles wfitting all present stuff... (that is why I have an idea with Lian Li A05:)... )

Providing the fans and cpu block are good then a 240 will be fine. EDIT: Just realised the graphics loop, i would suggest having it seperate maybe with the other 120 rad?

i'd suggest not bothering. if you're thinking i7 and sli phinix, i doubt it would be with a couple 8800gt's so there is no reason to watercool the 2 cards as they're already gonna be afster than a bat outta hell. then just stick all the water over the i7 and destroy that mutha

Now I'm just one step before I move all parts to my cube and water cool it. I cannot wait cause when playing games GTX is going a bit louder than usual. ALso having CPU watercooled may be interesting:) Now I got 38400 with stock cooler. Dont like it.... i7 are pretty hot CPUs, so I believe Swiftech 220 would be fine for just a CPU. Then I could use at least second 220 rad for two GTXs - they can run hot so I wouldn;t mind a bit higher temps than super duper WC loops..

Update time... Last 5 weeks I spent on redecorating our kitchen - a lot of work for making such a small room:) Preactically I haven't touched my cube for more then 2 months. I missed it so much and wanted to do sth to move this project forward. I bought aluminium tube in B&Q to create spacers for PSU mounting back plate. I cut out 4 30mm pieces, filed them and tapped. Then had to shorten bolts for this frame - used dremel to do this. I already showed you guys this PSU back frame, so here it is mounted to the rear panel with those aluminium tubes. ...and the full cube with PSU mounted... Then got back to preparing water loop: The part from 220 radiator to smal 120 rad is pretty tricky - tube must go above PSU where is very little space - no room for huge tube bends, so had to use 90degree red elbows. For one of the 220 radiator barbs I used 90 degree elbow converter: Its very tight in lower level... Last thing to show - one fo the back black panels mounted on right:) Also decided to go back to thick tubes - Tygon 3/8, instead of Feser 3/8... Feser is maybe good for longer distances, but in loop so small and bends Tygon is better...

looks good, but that psu has got to be stealthed somehow, it just looks daft as it is, mainly due to the silver and upside down sticker other than that, very cramped, but looking gooooooood

Didn't show you my place of work before.. here's my attic... real mess.. I'm glad my wife didn't see that..yet... Here's my loop during leak test... all fine, no leaks here.... On this one here you can see that I moved the mobo tray to the back.. about 5mm... that gave me enough (I hope) space in the front for all controllers and moved PCI brackets to the rear so I can catch them with m new PCI bracket holder, which should be ready next week:) Started to rip apart my fan controller.. Cube will have couple of led lights in it. Biggest one will be actually outside, under the cube, in the center of its bottom panel. 16 leds will be squized between two acrylic squares (4x4cm), 4 leds on each side.... Here's plexi ready to cut... ...and after 3 minutes round one on one with my new Dremel... both squares after cut, filed and polished... Today I made 4 groups of 4 leds and glue them to the acrylic square. Looks ok, it will make nice light under the cube. I'm terrible in soldering.. All 4 groups glued to acrylic Power please... Somebody hit the lights! Some leds need to calibrate a bit... Also made second side panel from black acrylic, will show pictures tomorrow, cause still need to sand and polish edges under water.

I've been planning few parts lately, I'm off from Monday till Thursday so I hope I will make some progress this week. Here's a idea for top panel - simple and clean. Big center part is covering slim dvd... And here's the back panel - I'm not going to do any black tint acrylic parts here, all will be red tinted. PSU bracket is done so now its time for mobo back panel. The hole in clear panel is huge so I had to figer out how I'm gonna cover at least part of this hole. I think frame built from couple of parts will be more interesting... ALso small teaser for back PCI mount part:)

Here's another small update. Finished second side panel - same as previous, but still worth to show on picture:) A lot of work done here.... Started to prepare top panel, black tinted acrylic of course was used for this part as well. Took about 1 hour to draw all those lines... I also finished that back frame around the mobo I/O panel. I cut all those parts from red tinted acrylic and glued them to the main rear panel. These were too small to use screws, plus they look more "clean" without bolts. Also finished that rear light control panel with switches. Looks nice, exactly like I wanted:) I just realised that control panel is screwed a bit to the right, uneven, need to correct it. Its easy to see that on pics...:wallbash: One thing happened when was gluing those rear frame parts - I used some cheap B&Q acrylic glue - NEVER AGAIN !!! It started to dry out before I managed to settle the part on rear panel, making some white "pasta" of itself..blllaaaaah.... WHen tried to clean this up, I ruined this piece.. so - boys and girls - never use cheap stuff for your modding! :wallbash::nono::duh: Anyway.. that would be all for now. Going back to cut that top panel...

whatare your plans for the I/O shield? so far i'm loving that rear panel but it would look naff with bare sockets or a silver metal shield.

Well, there wont be any IO shield - those frames cover all empty areas around the mobo ports. There won't be a lot of empty spaces between them, just few mm here and there... Only thing is I will make are acrylic PCI brackets for empty places - first two willbe covered by graphic card, rest3 will have nice alu/red acrylic brackets.

OK children.. its time for nice update:) Today I worked on front panel so here's a 1 hour work result - all lines ready to be cut up:) Also I received few things from Tom from Chilled PC. Everyone remember my plan for front panel and this ring a'la Crysis logo? Well, here it is... This is black hex mesh I'm gonna use under the ring, take a look on Crysis logo you will see it has hex shapes in the center.... So here's the mesh... here's the red ring... and here's the metal ring... All these three parts.... ...will create.... Something like THIS!!!.
.
.
That's all for now.. On Monday will show you a lt of other stuff I made lately, like top panel, almost ready.. and after I cut front one, I will be able to show you whole cube, acrylic parts all-in-one:) So.. stay tuned!!!

Heres time for small update today. These are another pieces that will be used in cube. 8cm long 4 led strip to light up biohazard logos on both sides... I already installed chrome led holders in it... And heres 25cm long 12 led strip to light up top level of the cube - it will be installed top rear: Heres the whole battery:) Now this part I already mentioned before, but now it finished. This is rear card holder. Here's a simple construction I chose to keep cards in place - two red acrylic strips pressing card back plates between: ...and with alu piece taped with chrome... Just forgot to mention before - don't worry that all things look dusty and have a lot of finger printes - at the end I will clean them all up with some acrylic cleanser or sth...
