Ok well i have already run into a couple of problems on this board but now I have one I can't seem to solve. I am trying to get raid to work (or in fact any hard drive!)

I have two hard drives that I have checked work on a friends computer, they spin up immediately when he turns it on and are detected straight away. However when I plug them into my computer they dont spin up at all and aren't recognised at post or in the bios. I have played around with different sockets in the power supply and different cables and have run out of ideas.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Well I am using a Corsair 520 ppower supply.
The two drives I am trying to connect are samsung 400Gb dirves.
The case is a sg01 I am using a nt06 cooler and some crucial balistix 5300 ram.
I also have a xfx 8800gtsin there.

I don't have a pata drive to try.

However, I am now fairly sure it is a power issue. If i use the panel that came with the motherboard to externalise some of the sata cables i can plug in a normal 4 pin power cable and then from the panel run a cable which converts the 4 pin to a sata power cable. With this installed the drive spins up and is recognised.

So why arent the power cables that come with the power supply working?!!? (i have tried both sata connector cables the supply came with and my friend who has the exact same supply also tried one of his cables and none have worked) Can anyone figure out whats wrong?

Thanks again.

well it's not the drives or mainboard it must be the sata leads on the supply.

is this the psu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001

Yup sure is.

It is really odd. tomorrow I will go and buy some 4 pin to sata adapters and hopefully that should fix the problem. It does rather make me think the psu is dogey tho...

Off to bed now its quite late here in the uk.

I have same PSU and in my recent build have no issues (knock on wood). More likely the cable than anything else. Hopefully you get it worked out.

I have tested the cables and hard drives with my friends identicle psu and it all worked fine so I am hoping the psu is just faulty (it is being picked up today, should get a replacement tomorrow). It's a bit wierd that all the 4 pin connectors seemed to work fine and the mb reported that all the voltages were ok, but I dont see what other component could be at fault. Hopefully the new psu will be fault free and I wont have any more headaches.

Apart from the fault the psu seemed really good the fan was quiet and the modular system worked pretty well with the only annoyance being the unused but not modular 8 pin supply.

Well, hope it works out for you.

I don't understand that non-modular 8-pin supply either. I've never had a motherboard that required it. Isn't it used for dual CPU motherboards only? If so, I would think it woudl be made modular since that is probably such a low percentage of their customers.

Well finally got everything sorted! I dont know what was wrong with the power supply but the new one doesnt have any problems. It all seems to be running smoothly and vista seems to be managing the drivers ok too. Might try and overclock the processor a bit though not too bothered since I dont really do anything which would need the extra power at the minute. The gts seems to be making the box run quite hot but I have installed a third fan and its still sooo quiet.

Yes. I have an 8800 GTX in my Sugo and heat is an issue even with the the three 80mm and PSU fan. I have the Enzotech Ultra X but might try the Zalman CNPS8000 active HSF when I swap motherboards. The GTX runs a good 5 to 7 C higher in the Sugo than it did in my main rig, which now houses an 8800 Ultra. BTW. The 8800 Ultra will fit in my HD cage-modded Sugo but it will probably fry itself since it runs 57C idle and 75C load in my main rig.

I took the SilverStone fan that was attached to the HD cage and placed it on the second opening above the expansion card area. I installed a Thermaltake 75 CFM Smart Case Fan II on the HD cage which runs at roughly 60% of max RPM.
