All, I think the new SG03 has lots of potential, however I am less than psyched about the mesh panel. And I know some of you in the forum have been curious about having two regular panels instead. I therefore emailed Silverstone about it, and here's my email and their answer. In short, if more people ask for it, they may do it. Message sent to usasupport@silverstonetek.comHello,
While being overall very impressed with the design of your new Sugo case, the SG03, I need a little bit modularity in the form of a normal side panel instead of the mesh one. Here’s why.
While the mesh panel is essential if one has the PSU facing outward, I plan to use the Silverstone Nitrogon NT06-Lite with my PSU facing inward and sucking hot air from the CPU (a common design feature of the Sugo series). In that case, the mesh panel is: 1) Useless 2) Ugly 3) Detrimental to the front-to-back airflow created by the 120mm fans pushing in the front, since there are no fans to pull in the back: the air will escape sideways through the mesh, and not properly cool short PCI cards or the back HDD.
It’s too bad to see such a nice airflow design ruined by a single, easily replaceable component, such as the mesh side panel.
I have already seen others (in a popular SFF forum) ask about availability of a replacement side panel for the mesh, so I know I am not alone there. I also know that you have side-panels available for your Temjin series, so it’s not an impossible feat for Silverstone.
Please do take time to consider the merits of my argument. I will post your response to the forum.
(Salutations and sig)
Response from tony@silverstonetek.comHi Nicolas, thank you very much for your interest in SilverStone and for the feedback. The SG03 has only recently started selling so we will definitely take careful note of your suggestion and look to implement it quickly if we receive more feedbacks similar to yours. If you really want more people to respond, then post this on Digg, since this forum is almost dead.

...since this forum is almost dead. I wouldn't go that far...quiet for sure...but at least slightly more active than the " Site Forum Support" area. It's a shame, Sudhian used to have a great buzz a couple of years ago...is there a more active place for the mATX community?

I'm almost dead?!?! :-(
There may be a quiet period whilst people wait for the dx10/vista combo to settle down and become a requirement for future games. When that happens I'm sure there will be a rush of builds and things will pick up.

The problem is that this forum is recognized as a place for Shuttle users. And since shuttle is on its last legs, users are abandoning the ship and the forums.
Perhaps is time to somehow change the image of the forums, so we can attract more matx users here.
HardOCP SFF forum is pretty busy and it has a lot of users.
don't worry, jasper, i'm not leaving just yet. :-)

Cool, I'm happy a few of you have emailed too
I did post my email on the [H] forum, btw.
Regarding the forum here and the lack of activity, I would blame Sudhian for that. I keep hoping they'll post new reviews, but I've hardly seen anything lately. Even SFF-news are missing, now we get generic hardware news and I have to find SFF-related stuff elsewhere. I agree it's sad though...

Don't bash the mesh unless you actually have an SG03. I'm doing a review of the unit and I'm gonna try and figure out if it actually causes a problem.

I don't really consider the SG03 a SFF, but I think the mesh panel looks class. The problem is that this forum is recognized as a place for Shuttle users. And since shuttle is on its last legs, users are abandoning the ship and the forums.

don't worry, jasper, i'm not leaving just yet. :-) I think Shuttle is doing pretty well... Their SFFs are generating mainstream buzz now and you can find many of their cases in Fry's. Hard's SFF forum is probably the most active SFF forum. EOCF recently added a SFF section, so that is a step in the right direction.

Just noticed something.
Priced a new MATX intel mobo, sugo1 and silverstone PSU.
that alone made US$400, after that, a SD39 is not that expensive anymore.
Just concerned about Shuttle customer support, since we lost Mario and Kevin and no one has come forth to be our savior at Shuttle's.

Well, with Shuttle seemingly preparing to provide a motherboard upgrade path, Shuttle is becoming a more interesting option again, but there's no going around that you can't fit a big PSU and/or GPU into a G5 box for instance, and the P box will fare only slightly better (at least you can have more than one HDD).
If you think about it the SG03 is pretty much loaded so you won't be able to put the same content into a smaller box. It all depends on your needs obviously, and I would love Shuttle to get out of their current uncomfortable situation, because I've been really happy with my G5 (until I started to need an upgrade path).

Back to the original topic, yahui168 posted on [H] that he is seeing a few degrees improvement in CPU cooling when obstructing the SG03 mesh panel with construction paper, in a PSU+NT06 lite configuration with 2 fans in front.
Pretty much the config I'd want except I'd add a 2-slot GPU to the mix (he seems to be using integrated VGA out). I hope that Silverstone comes through with that replacement panel. I am also waiting for SFFClub's review for an additional take on the issue.
