Hi,

i'm planing to replace the mainboard in my SN41G2 wit a Kontron 986LCD with an T5600 Core 2 Duo, 2 gig ram.
Is the CPU strong enough for a 8800 GTS??

EDIT: Changed topic to clarify my Question Wink CPU / GPU should work with the board.

the processor doesn't have much to do with that... as far as i know it doesn't matter about your processor only about things like your motherboard and if you have a strong enough power supply...
only isn't that a laptop processor?

hi,

yes you're right it is a "mobile" Intel Core 2 Duo 1,83 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 166 MHz FSB, 34W TDP.

And teh question is will the 8800GTS be CPU limited??

Devellow go to tomshardware, they did a test on this.

And showed that a P4 3.0-3.4Ghz (atx standar system) will not gain from using 8800 cards. You need more power, and if you read that test you can then try to find a test on mobile cpus.

To see if the mobile cpu has the same preformance as a standard core 2 duo cpu that the used in the original test.

Hi Dennis,
tomshardware didn't help mutch but according to Futuremark (http://service.futuremark.com/orb/projectsearch.jsp) the CPU score of a C2D E6400 is around 2000. After a long search i found a T7400 OC with 2500 points (http://img55.imageshack.us/my.php?image=t7400joecool3d06sli015st.gif).
So I think this should work great.

I was looking at this exact board, though i was hoping for 4 dimms and a desktop core2duo. Let me know how you get on with this board, and also are the mobile chips worth the extra cash?

my 3.5ghz 6420 is not enough for my 8800gts. At around 3.8ghz it starts to be enough, but runs way too unstable.
There is no cpu powerful enough for the 8800's yet, overclocked or not.
