Accessing SAMBA shares from Vista

Here's a Vista registry hack I found when having problems accessing SAMBA shares - it works.
Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
In the right pane, right-click the "LmCompatibilityLevel" key and select "modify"
Change the value from 3 to 1
This hack is required because Vista defaults to a higher LANMAN security level and SAMBA uses the earlier security.
As you may know its also essential to have the same username/password combinations on the SAMBA box and the Windows PC.
SAMBA/linux user and group admin usually offers an option to create SAMBA users when Linux users are created.
'(su/sudo) smbpasswd -a username' is used to create a SAMBA password same as the Windows client PC
'sudo smbclient -L username' can be used to verify shares are accessible to the specified username.
Hope this saves someone hours of time....

Thanks SM. Although I've successfully weened myself off all things M$, I'm sure it'll come in handy for those who haven't yet made the move. It's just a shame that the only software that allows such interoperability between the two operating systems comes from the linux side. It's also disappointing that you have to 'hack' Vista just to get things working.
