Texas Legislature Voting for other people. Even if you don't give a rats butt about politics it's still worth the watch to see how childish the Legislature is.

Gosh, FA, you're right. That makes it an utterly irrelevant post, doesn't it?

(oy)

For one, I'm glad I don't live in Texas. I'd be even MORE outraged if I did...

Wow.  This is simply appalling.  Ditto that this needs to be in National circulation.  As far as joining to post this, I would have joined a forum in a heart-beat to give something of this magnitude national attention.  Kudos to the new guy!

One word.  D A M N .
I came here expecting to see a Holy Cow or something frivolous.
Next time one candidate accuses the other of not showing up to vote, think of this.
While they likely have some prearrangement made, even the slightest possibility of someone voting (incorrectly) in my place would gaurantee that my ass shows up.  If those members of the Legislature have "more important" things to do... then at least setup and participate in a system for absentee voting or voting by video-conference.
With mobile wireless, cameras and mics embedded in high-end laptops, such a thing wouldn't be hard to setup.

Is it just Texas congress that fell too behind in technology?
Cuz I've seen video showing that congressmen (in some state) need their own key to activate the voting buttons.

I doubt Texas has a valid excuse for the reason they do not have the technology. They have only of the largest economies amoung our 50 states.

I believe it is not in the interests of lobbyists for them to have updated technology. However this is only my assumption based on my belief about how the world operates.

As far as I'm concerned, there's plenty of technology already there.  What's missing is honesty.  If they installed Key locks to make sure people turn a key before they voted, I'm sure you'd see a bunch of empty desks with turned keys so people could pop buttons.

Pathetic, but I'm far from surprised, unfortunately.

What ever happened to raising hands or standing or other old-fasioned methods of voting?

You're assuming politicians can count. ;-P

Simply astounding.  This shows what a group of politicians (elected by the people) actually think of votes- that they are arbitrary, and needless.  What's the next law the pass?  People showing up late to the ballots to vote can take other peoples' votes?

EDIT: Now that I think about it, it's rather pointless to have an undefined punishment that's determined by the same people breaking their own rule.

Not a disappointment at all.  In fact, that expectation is what took me so long to come around and check the video in this thread.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

(Former) Congress didn't seem to have any problem counting when it came to their own pay raises...

Since 1992 it has been unconstitutional for congress to grant itself a pay raise.  They do get a cost of living adjustment however(around 3%).

They do vote on whether to fail the automatic pay raise.
The current congress voted to fail this past pay raise.
I think you'd need to count to know how to do that.
