I have started on doing an custom made fan shroud adapter which will make an 120mm fan fit inside my SN41G2 case.
I'we made an prototype out of cardboard tell me what you think, and by the way what size of aluminium should i use 0,5 or 1,0mm.

The fan i'm going to use is a Noctua (NF-S12-1200) which is incredible quiet for the blowing m3/h.

If my mechurments are right the top of the fan should be in level with the small hole for the topp thumb screw leaving a gapp for about 5mm or less.

The air will only go through the fins so all the air will point to the rear exhaus grill without any 90 degree walls. (Yes i have cut out my grill and replaced it.)

I have an extra network card in my case for use with xbox. The fan will be about 5mm above the card.

Shoot - you've already got that one in there, why not just keep it?

Oooh very nice. I'd personally go for thinner metal as it is easier to work with. You can score along all your edges before bending to make nice sharp corners, and you can cut thinner metal with heavy duty scissors, which makes things much easier!

If you haven;t yet got a strategy for mounting the shroud to the case yet, might I suggest motherboard stand-offs (i.e. these things). You can cut the tips off with a rotary tool or a hacksaw to make perfectly sized nuts for regular thumb screws. I use them in my own custom shroud and they make it very easy to remove it when I need access to the fan or ICE, e.g. for cleaning.

Keep us posted Smiley

Thanks Zut50 for pointers about work with the thinner aluminium and motherboard stand-offs.
Saw your creation about the 92mm fan shroud made me more conviced and ready about doing this mod,
exept i won't have a fan on outside as i want to have it clean and tiddy outside the box.

As for the metal thickness, I would suggest that thicker is better in any application where vibration might be a problem. There are other ways to cut down vibration but none are so easy as adding mass.

Ok now i have bought all materials that i need to complete this modification, i have just some small adjustments to do before going to the actually aluminium so that i don't fuck upp.
When i'm done i will run the sketch through a scanner with measurments so that others can take advantage of it and make it as easy as possible without any confusions. (as long as they have an sn41g case or any other similar internal sized shuttle comps.)

Soon more updates.
