I discovered this site while searching for one. i did some searching on the forum, but found all related topics to be almost a year old.  Right now i have an ATI Radeon X1300 Pro for my vista computer.
I found this:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103047  but am not sure if that card outperforms mine by a worthy margin.

if that card isnt the best there is, what is?

Don't know about the difference in performance between your X1300 Pro and the 2400's or even the low profile NVIDIA 8400GS's, but Powercolor have a few out now here in Oz.

They have a low profile Radeon HD 2400 XT PCI-E, 256MB DDR3, 700Mhz clock, Memory Clock 700 MHz x 2, still a 64bit Memory Interface, but that's a step up from the one you have linked to.

Seems there is a Galaxy 8600GT Low Profile, but with limited availability.

Have a look at this thread.

Have tried to find that but it's really hard. The Galaxy 8600GT is the best performing Low Profile card around though. Try eBay and Galaxy's dealer list.

the galaxy's core clock speed looked pretty low(540) compared to the 2400xt(700). and i might be going crossfire with the 2400xt.  and if i do so, ill need a new LP bracket and probably a new power supply.  HDMI connector is unecessary as far as i can see. this upgrade wont cost more than 200usd hopefully.

Clock speed doesn't define real world speed. It matters a lot what it can process. That's why a lot of 2GHz processors beat the crap out of a Pentium 4 3GHz.

k. Ong,

The Powercolor HD 2400 XT is the best I have found as I have the exact same problem. I had a Dell E521 that I bought on eBay but it had more bugs than a roach farm. Since it's no longer made Dell replaced my tower with an Inspiron desktop. So I had to 86 my brand new 512MB Gefore 8500 GT for something decent in lo-pro. I actually ordered the Powercolor card yesterday from Newegg without reading the reviews.

Indeed the card itself is lo-profile but the bracket isn't (as are a few others I've now seen so you have to be carerful). It would have been nice if that fact was mentioned in the sales lit but it isn't. I did find out by going to Powercolor's web site that a lo-pro bracket is available for purchase for $12.00 shipped. Now how you fit all that hardware on a lo-pro bracket I can't say but at least it seems to be a solution. Here's the web site URL:  http://www.powercolor.com/eng/support_store.asp. Hope that helps.
