Well Hello and happy New Year hope thing are well in Sud these days?
Anyway back on topic I have a old Humax digital box that the software needed updating so got all the right stupid plugs to the machine to the serial port, But the sofware cannot connect to my box?
I keep getting “Access violation 00000000. read to address 00000000”
The software is a simple flash program that loads a HDF. file and a few things I have tried are:

1) Bios advance about five options one being auto and others which I cant remeber but think it has something to do with Fifo access.
2) Gone into control pannel to Systems and device manager setting baudrates to lowest 9600bps etc.
There are afew options relating to Fifo, but just asking if I unlselect the Fifo would that help?
Any experience with access the serial port at the back would be appreciated?

Here is the software and file location:
http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/support/downloadcenter_model.aspx?category_seq=53
click on download instructions to get the flash program called “Wdn4oak”
If you decide to have a go you need to rename the file to WDN4OAK+ so it recognises the file as a winzip for access!

I’ve checked the website its clean its Humax after all crappest support on the planet LOL!

Thanks

I would suggest you check that the serial port is working first of all......do you have any other devices you can test it with?

Serial is also very dependent upon what bps, parity, etc you use......its a pita to be honest.

I’ll have a look tomorrow at your problem clip, atm my mind ain’t working!

Hope you had a good new year and Christmas tho!

Hello Mate thanks I’ve had a up and down Christmas, but loads of time with the family.
The usual stuff went on....
I’ve been busy keeping everything ticking over.
Anyways hope you had a good Christmas and New Year also matey?

If you can see what a possible good solution would be, that would be appreciate fella! I haven’t used the data serial since I bought the shuttle and can’t even remember if I got that to work the first time I mucked about with it.
My last resort is to use the old PIII I know that works it will be painful to boot it up, but I’m sure I’ll get it resolved in the end LOL.

So, what’s the news? Have you tried anything else on the serial port?  Did you figure this out?

Yes all sorted thanks, the cable I used which was a Null Modem it was damaged which I didn’t even realise because the pin had sheared off completely and missing LOL!
The top box was updated after borrowing a spare cable, but the flash upgrade still has issues like information or lack of, guessing the Eprom is too small since it was produced and can’t handle too much buffered information in todays time of on digital, after all the flash update was upto 2006??? But all is good anyways good to hear from you Timster!
