Hello all,

I have an old rig which I use in the spare bedroom for watching TV on, listening to music and some internet browsing. Ive been given a motherboard and CPU, and wonder whether its more powerful than the one I currently have. What do you think? The specs are:

Current rig:
- AMD Sempron 2800 @ 1.6ghz
- Socket 754 mobo with Nvidia Nforce 3 chipset
- ATi Radeon 9550 AGP graphics
- 1.5 gig RAM, 160gb HDD and Sony Optical drive
- Windows 7 Home Premium

If I retained the RAM, HDD and optical drive but swapped in the following, would I see much difference in general responsiveness?

- Intel Pentium 4 (6xx series) @ 3.2ghz with Hyper-threading
- Socket 775 mobo with Intel 915 chipset

I would then add a cheap ATi HD4xxx series PCI-E graphics card and re-install Windows 7. With a HDMI connection up to my recent 22” Samsung Monitor I personally think this would make a decent, cheap upgrade. What do you think?

As k64 mentioned the Pentium 4 whilst being alot more power hungry is the better system of the two.

if you’re running 915 video, then the socket 754 is better.  Will run cooler in the summer too, P4’s of that generation run real hot and us a lot of power.
