Hi, just wondering if anyone has attempted putting the 500W PSU from the SX58H7 into a G chasis.

The PSU is now available for $123 AUD

Dimensions

PC 60 (300W) 190 X 82 X 43 mm
PC 63 (500W) 200 X 82 X 53 mm

So its 1cm longer, no problems there, but the width is 1 cm wider. I think this means it has to stick out the side of the case. (which is how my GTX 285 sits anyways)

I'm currently running an SG31G2 with a 300W PSU which has reached it's limits

Q9400
GTX 285
2 X 1.5tb WD green drives
1 X 128gb G Skill Falcon SSD

It started dying when I had the Q9400 OC'd to 3ghz + & playing AVP
And Battlefield Bad Company 2 dies with high settings Sad

Was thinking of getting a 450W Thermaltake vga PSU, but would prefer to keep things simple & have a normal DVD-RW drive.

Greetings SF,

Don't have a G2 around anymore to test it.

I have placed the 300W from a G2 into a H and J case.

And have placed the 500W into a J1 case.

IMO it would fit but it depends on the length of the connections.

Needed a 4 pin ATX power extension for the J1 case.

I think that you'll find that due to the 500W PSU using a 50mm fan, and different spacing for it's mounting holes, it will require at the least some chassis hacking, to get it to fit.

Just noticed the comment about width/thickness,,, the extra width is at the back of the chassis and is on the inside edge of the 500W PSU so shouldn't be a problem but see above. Wink

I'm very tempted now. If it doesn't protrude out the side of the case I'm very interested. Mounting points is a bit of a shame, but I'm sure cable ties, a couple of extra drill holes and a dremel will make sure it doesn't move

I took the plunge this weekend and managed to fit the PC63 into my SG31G2! Although I broke my dremel Sad (cheap pissweak arlec brand). So I found a cheaper one at Kmart for $22, and this one has some balls 135W compared to the old 80W.

Anyways here's some pics

This is how it looked when I first got it, modded to fit a GTX265. It now runs a GTX285

Side by side, you can see the differences in dimensions

Unfortunately the ICE gets in the way of the bulge on the PC63. it will protrude outside the edge of the case.

Here's what it looks like after 2 dremels

So this is why it's bulge, and not larger all the way through, (to allow room for the HDDs)

Tada! slight bulge, I never used to put a screw on the side panel anyways.

Looks like you could take a little off the ICE, then it may fit flush.  Nice job though

I had considered it, but I'd have to cut into the metal shroud around the ice, possibly some of the fan, and then into the heatsink on the ice.

Another option would be to trim the heatsink, remove the shroud, and mount the fan externally.
