Hi everyone, I want to tell you about this family I have become to know and love. Its a widowed mother and seven children from ages 1-15. They have been in the US for almost 2 years, they are currently filing for asylum. They are from Iraq. The reason the mother is a widow is because her husband was executed by Saddams people. He was executed because for months he had been helping the US army locate IEDs and outting known enemy combatants. The countless lives he had saved made his family proud, and his actions were so appreciated that after his death the Army Guard soldiers that were closest to him promised to keep his family safe. So after much struggled they were basically smuggled out of Iraq by the Army and flown into the USA. During the struggles of getting them out th e mom gave birth, the 2nd youngest suffered severe eye trauma from a car bomb, and there oldest son 12-13 at the time was forced to use an AK47 to protect his family. This family is truly amazing, I wouldnt be at all surprised to see them move back to Iraq in 10-15 years and become the leaders of a much more peaceful country, they are smart, cute, and are now ordinary kids who have had an extraordinary past. I am writing to all of you to ask for help, they love their computer, its one gotten at an auction for $20. Its a Pentium II and is ridiculous slow. Its their only means to communicate to family back home, and is their primary source of learning to adapt into the US culture. My goal this Christmas is to build them a new computer, I was hoping that the Sudhian family would be able to help. I have an old case I can use, an older video card, I am lacking everything else. Is anyone willing to donate their old computer hardware to the cause? I would be most appreciative and so would they. It doesnt have to be anything new, as their current computer is about 8 years old. Please post here if you are willing to help, or email me at rocky.schneider@gmail.com to talk to me more about it. I dont want to share too much information about the family as they are still very much in danger in my opinion if their names got out there. This family is remarkable far beyond what I told you already, please email me and Ill tell you more about them. Thanks everyone for your generosity and Merry Christmas!

A worthy cause, indeed. Unfortunately, I have no spare components to help out - are you taking PayPal or something to buy the stuff you don't get donated?

I'll check my computer junk box when I get home. I am sure I can come up with something useful.

Wow guys, thanks for the offers. Virtuous1 also wrote me with some help. The only thing I think I need to make sure is to try to get a processor to match up with the motherboard before I accept something I wont use. Fall-Apart- thanks for the offer. I hadnt consider that yet. I am starting to think Ill need to buy a harddrive as thats what mostly goes wrong that causes people to upgrade their old computers in the first place. Plus its tough to ship a harddrive without ruining it I think. If you want to help by paypal it would be most appreciated, my paypal address is RTDS@aol.com. Yes I have an aol account! hah Thanks everyone else, Ill keep you posted once I can sort out all the parts Ill need.

Just to share something of my experiences with the family. Its amazing how the internet preys on those who do not speak english fluently. The family has gotten much better language-wise since they've been here, but checking emails and clicking on fake ads and such on the internet has been a big problem. Makes me realize how often in a day I delete spam, close popups, or ignore ads that promise free things. Really makes ya wonder why they prey on people who dont have much to begin with.

I am almost positive that I have a hard drive and some good packaging to send it in. I will check when I get home.

here is another thing... maybe the stuff that gets donated but isnt need can be sold to people that do need it (like I wouldnt mind that ATI card for my next computer project) - maybe I could paypal some cash for it if it is not needed?

I know you said that you had an old case, but I would be willing to donate a black Thermaltake Tsunami w/ side window and blue CCL's if you are interested.

Sorry, Rocky, I struck out. I must have sold the HD I was thinking of at my last garage sale.
Good luck.

Rocky, I have some memory you can have. What I would suggest so far:
60GB HD (synapse) 400 watt PSU (synapse) 9600XT AGP (synapse) DDR Memory (Jasper) Case (craigbru) NIC (wdb1966) CPU (mike valla or kool honda) Modem (woodbutcher007)
Needs:
Optical Drive Motherboard (preferably AGP, have lots of CPU options) Sound Card (onboard would do too)

http://www.epoxstore.com/Products.asp?CType=1&CID=1004they have some pretty good prices for sockets that are very hard to find anymore (Socket A, 478, etc). Just thought that might be a good heads up if one is needed to be purchased.

Hey there,
I have not one, but two options for you. The first and most complete option is a Gigabyte K7 Triton motherboard with an AMD Barton 2500 processor and the heatsink/fan combo that goes with it. This has all the original packaging, CD with drivers, instruction manual, etc. This has a Front side Bus at 400, takes DDR400 memory, and will handle an AGP8x video card. This is of course a bit dated, but sounds like what you are looking for.
Option number two is a brand spanking new Biostar TForce 6100-939 motherboard. No processor with this one but it is much more current technology. Also it has video built in (Nvidia Geoforce 6100) so no need for a video card. This will take most any AMD socket 939 processor up to and including a dual processor. It takes DDR 266/333/400 memory. It will handle IDE hard disks or SATA 2.0 This would definitely be a better option if somebody has a nice socket 939 processor they could kick in. It has CD with all drivers, instruction manual, and cables. (This was gonna be a full time folder but I managed to kill the 3800x2 that was going to go into it. Now I'm thinking to go with socket AM2 so this board is available.)
Just let me know what you want and give me a shipping address and it's on its way. Hope this helps.

It's packed up in a box since I'm moving but I can get to it this week. PM me if it's needed by Saturday (I saw KoolHonda has 939s, so maybe you'd take his), otherwise I wouldn't be able to send it until January.
